Re: ribbon for cake??
If you're having a buttercream icing cake, the oils from the buttercream will soak the ribbon. Not a huge deal, just keep in mind that by the time you see it and in the pictures, the ribbon color will be much darker as it will be 'wet'.

I don't know much about whipped cream except that it melts....so I don't know how that would work with ribbon.

Re: ribbon for cake??
Our cake had buttercream icing and the satin ribbon was fine. Nothing soaked through.

Re: ribbon for cake??
I am going through all this ribbon stuff too. I actually went to my bakery that the Three Village is using and they told me that whipped cream will have the same affect on anything other than satin ribbon. The original ribbon I picked out was organza. Now I am in search of satin ribbon in the right color...

Re: ribbon for cake??
i would suggest using satin no matter which type of cream you use. nothing seeps thru so you don't have to worry about the color changing.
