Ridiculous Ring Question

Ridiculous Ring Question

FH decided he wants a titanium ring. He never wears any jewelry and he liked it bc it was so light so he didn’t really feel it when it was on. The only thing I’m worried about (thanks to my mom) is that she said if anything ever happens to your finger and it swells, they have to CUT YOUR FINGER OFF since they can’t cut titanium! Is this true?? I know that they can’t be resized bc of that reason.

I’m just worried bc FH plays a lot of sports, so I can see him jamming his finger or something and having it swell up and now I’m freaking out!
Sorry about the gross early morning question.

Q: Can a Titanium ring be cut off?

A: Yes! Please be aware that in any situation where it might become necessary to cut off a Titanium ring - for instance excessive weight gain, hand injury, etc., - cutting through titanium will be more difficult than cutting through gold or platinum. However, it can still be done. In our own jewelry shop, we used a separating disc and flexible shaft tool-items commonly found in nearly all jewelry shops that work with gold, silver, and platinum--to cut through one of our 5mm domed and comfort fit titanium rings. Cutting it all the way through took only 20 seconds. Next, we contacted our local hospital emergency room and asked if they were equipped to cut off a titanium ring in an emergency. Most hospital emergency rooms are prepared to handle almost anything, and ours assured us that it would be no problem for them.

and this..

titanium ring cut off

I think you're good to go.

Dont worry about it even at the hospital it can be cut off. I know a guy who had to have his cut off in the ER.....it will be fine.

You are getting Tittanium and Tungstun confused. Titanium is fine don't worry..Tungstun is what you are thinking about, but I assure you there is no finger cutting going on!

My FH picked a titanium ring for the same reason. We asked about having it cut to size and the only reason they can't do that is because it compromises the durability of the metal. They said nothing about it not being about to be cut at all. I wouldn't worry. There are some awesome looking rings...this is the one my FH picked.

Yes we just met with our jeweler on Saturday and picked out our wedding bands. I asked him if that was true about Titanium and he said yes and he advises people not to get it for that reason

LOL ... I just realized I know your FH (at least I'm 99% sure it is him). I don't know why it took me so long to realize this ... he's right there in your picture!!! We went to high school together.

Random, sorry but sometimes you just gotta share

I head it the other way around.. Tungstun is fine.. they have vices to take it off. Titanium is not cutable. My FH and I researched this alot since he's in the military (never know what could happen). We did find one or 2 jewelers who said titanium could be cut but we personally felt they were just trying to make a sell because most jewelers said it could not. We decided to error on the side of caution so we didn't have to worry.

my dh's is almost exactly the same, only that the silver part is just one line, its thicker and in the middle

but yeah i wouldnt worry, first of all chances are this wont even happen and if it does there has to be a way to cut into it, i mean they had to cut the ring to get it that way obviously so can be cut.

Wow! That's scary! But it doesn't seem like it would be a problem getting it cut off. I could totally see why you'd be concerned though!
