Ring Appraisal

Hello Girls.
Just thought I'd share my ring appraisal story w/you...

So I got engaged about 3 weeks ago and my mother/fiance bugged me to get it appraised/insured. FINALLY I got to do that this weekend. A couple of ppl told me to go to Macys (Herald Square) and do it, but my mom was persistent about it and wanted me to go to a local jewerly store, where she always goes. We had already gotten an appraisal from where my fiance bought the ring, but we wanted another one.
So I went sat to the local jewelery store and let me tell you-waste of time. First of all, the guy was sooo completely rude, charged us $$65 and told us it was basically worth nothing. He made my fiance feel so bad. But its was very sketchy-he was like, is this platinum? If you are a jeweler, you should know, I thought. Then he was like I need to take your ring apart to weigh the diamonds. I was ilke, absolutely not. So after leaving and feeling depressed and taken advantage of all weekend, we went to Macys on Monday.
SO MUCH BETTER!!!
The girl was sooo nice, the appraisal cost was less, and can you believe this-she appraised it for $2500.00 MORE than the first idiot did.
I was sooo pissed.
Just thought I'd share my story with you.
Go to Macys-it's worth it.

Is the appraisal from Macys detailed?? I need to get insurance for my ring and State Farm needs a more detailed report (I have one from the jeweler but SF needs a specific one). How much did you pay for the report?

The appraisal from Macys is very detailed-typed up and all!!
You pay 1% of what the ring is appraised for. So if its appraised for 4500.00 you pay 45.00...
Go To Macy's!!
I'm going to try and get my money back from the stupid jeweler.

My FH got my ring from a dealer we know in NYC and then we went to get it appraised for insurance company at a local jeweler in CT (where we live) They didn't charge us at all for the appraisal...
It was Harston's.

It was appraised for more than my FH paid, but the ring was worth that much, he just didn't pay that because he kbnew the dealer.,
i guess we lucked out

I also got engaged about 3 weeks ago and had the ring appraised immediately by Edward Lewand, who is the exclusive appraiser for Kay Cameron Jewelers in Sayville.

He is phenomenal! He was very personable. He is a bit pricey at $100. But the dossier appraisal which we received 1 week later is very nicely put together and extremely professional. He included copies for insurance purposes. Well worth the $100!

He was able to confirm that my diamond was the exact match as what the GIA report indicated. And it appraised much higher than what my fiancé paid. Which made him feel proud.

I highly recommend Edward!
