are you close to a major macys? they do appraisals and only charge 10% of the entire worth of the ring. so if its appraised for $10K then you pay $100 for the appraisal. unless you know of a good jewelry store who will appraise it for you and that you can trust

We went to Genaro's in Bellmore to get my ring appraised. I don't know if you are close to there or if you are willing to travel but they gave us a very detailed appraisal.

I got mine done by an independent appraiser in the city...of course the name escapes me now. It cost about $100 i think...
I went to Barry Block on Old Country Road in Garden City, he was really nice and I think in cost around $100. HTH

We went to H & L Grossman in Garden City.. They are great there and FFIL buys jewelry there all the time, so they are def trustworthy. The proce of the appraisal depends on the TCW of your ring... mine was $85 for 1.5 TCW
