Yes. Def. Do it NOW.

Make sure your appraisal lists not only what you paid but the grade and quality of your diamond. The point is the same diamond will be worth more in the future. If you just list the cost of the diamond you will likely not get a diamond in the future that's the same quality for the same price.

yeah, if your ring is certified, make sure all the cert numbers on there
we had to fax in the certs for everything so it is covered

PLEASE insure it ASAP......my niece let the insurance lapse and her ring was stolen........it was $30,000 dollar ring. It was more the sentimentalness of it but, that was a huge loss.

YES, def do it!!! I highly recommend getting your ring appraised by Barry Block at the Jewelry Judge in Garden City. Some insurance companies that have a good reputation are Jewelers Mutual and Touchstone.

you can get it appraised (make sure it's an independent appraiser though) for about $100-200 (depending on the size of the main diamond). Insurance costs about $100-500 per year (depending on the appraisal value) and you can just use your car's insurance company (or house if you're a homeowner)

but you should absolutely do it!!

it was appraised by the place that DH bought the ring and then we had it insured very soon after he gave it to me. I didn't feel comfortable wearing it without it being insured.

Ditto to everything that's been said.

If you have homeowner's/renters insurance, you can usually tack it on for an additional premium (determined by the value).

When DH purchased the ring it came with appraisal paperwork. I just insured it last week.

I got the appraisal done by the person that sold it (keep in mind, your appraisal should be at least like about 15-20% higher than the actual cost of the ring) and then I had a rider added to my parent's homeowner's insurance. I think it was something like $200 a year to insure it but that depends on the insurance you have and the cost of the ring. I also have a $1000 deductible so if I do lose it, I have to pay $1000 to get a new one no matter what so that could be why the insurance price is so low.
