This totally reminded me based on the question of the day... We got engaged in April and I still have not had my ring appraised or insured. Where do you go or did anyone go to have their ring appraised? Can you go to a regular jewelry store, or does it have to be a special place?
Thank you!

Re: Ring appraisal
I chose to go to an independent appraiser (one who doesn't sell or buy diamonds) because I wanted a non-bias appraisal.
They are GIA certified gemologists and they were ON POINT with the diamond's characteristics (I didn't show them my gia report beforehand). I was very impressed.
Get it appraised ASAP missy!

Re: Ring appraisal
My diamond was already GIA certified, so I just brought the ring and the papers to a jewelry store near me and they appraised it. I had it done for insurance, but I don't think they required it, but I needed to know how much to insure it for!

Thanks ladies. Yes, another thing on my 'list' of things to do.

Re: Ring appraisal
You should look into Jeweler's Mutual Insurance. The jeweler told FH about it and I am insured through them... SUPER cheap! GL!

Re: Ring appraisal
My father is a jeweler (he made my ring) and he only recommends Macy's Herald Square for appraisals. They are honest and do it in front of you. Never let that ring leave your sight, not even for one minute! They may not give as inflated a value as other appraisers, but it is a fair replacement value and you don't have to leave your ring with anyone. As for insurance, if you have home owner's insurance already you can add it to that. I don't, so I got my policy from Nationwide.
