I've read through the posts on this, but I am still a little foggy on this....
Do they have to remove the stones in order to dip a ring?? If not, how does the gold not cover the stones??
My band has some wear and tear scratches that I would love to get cleared up before the wedding, but I'm nervous about this...
thanks ladies!!

Re: ring dipping
They don't remove the stones. I'm not sure how it's done but I had mine done and they look great.

Re: ring dipping
I think it has something to do with electrical charges. Like, the stone doesn't conduct electricity (but the metal does - gold, etc.) and therefore the rhodium doesn't adhere to it. I could be totally confusing this with something else, so let me research it and get back to you.

They don't remove the stones. They actually place a gel-like substance over the diamonds so that they're not damaged.

Re: ring dipping
Gold is a metal and there is no chemical reaction that takes place between diamonds and gold. I had the same question and this is what my jeweler said. So, when you dip you're ring, there is no need to take out the stone because the gold would never stick to the stone. However, other things may in fact react with your diamond and ruin it. ( I knew a mom who was taking her son's temp with a mercury thermometer and while she was shaking the thermometer, it hit her wedding ring and the tip of the thermometer cracked and the mercury dripped right onto her ring and totally ruined it. Thank goodness she had it insured!!!)
