My engagement and wedding rings are not insured. Can anyone please explain to me what steps I need to take to get this done and where to go? We can't add it to our homeowners insurance because we live in a condo. Can it be added to the company I use for car insurance and take out some sort of small 'plan'? I really don't know how to go about this, but I'd like to do it soon. Thanks!!

I'm not sure if you can add it to car insurance but I think you can add it onto rental insurance. You need an appraisal, and the agent needs to see the ring in person (at least mine did we use Statefarm) it was only $75 for the year. But ask your car insurance agent too.

FH insured mine through Jeweler's Mutual. It covers more than our renter's insurance would and the premium is based on the appraisal of the ring. He definitely needed the appraisal and maybe the GIA certificate? He had it insured before he gave it to me, and said it was super easy.

I insured my ring through Jeweler's Mutual also and it was super easy to do online. You just need to get an appraisal and send it to them and fill out the application online.

This. FH had it appraised before we got engaged. I just submitted a copy of the appraisal, receipt, and GIA to Jeweler's Mutual and then they mailed the policy. It is very affordable.

We got a personal property insurance plan for my ring. It def covers more than your home owners because that policy really only covers theft (I think) The PPI covers anything - stolen, damaged, etc. It cost more, but we have more peace of mind. It is all based off the cost of the ring.

We have All State too & we were able to add it to our Homeowners or personal property insurance and we live in an apartment in a private home.

I have Allstate for Condo Homeowners Insurance and added a PPI policy onto that one. So living in a condo shouldn't be an issue. My jeweler also offered us information on insuring it, so you could always speak to them.

Thanks so much! Does Jewelers Mutual protect against everything? Such as damage, loss and theft?
