Ring Update/Vent kinda long

Ring Update/Vent kinda long

Okay, so as I've said on here before, FH asked me if I wanted a house or to be engaged. I opted for the house because I knew that he didn't see a point to being engaged if we still had to sleep on eachother's parent's couches. He told me that I wouldn't get a ring 'right away, but soon enough.' We've been together for a while and always knew we were going to get married so his parents gave us money to book the hall because they didn't want us to miss the dates we wanted and we definitely wanted next summer.
Okay so back to the point of this post, I still have yet to receive my ring! and we moved into our place in December!!! NOW here's for the real kicker, my parents were so impressed with FH's ability to save enough money for a downpayment on a house, and were so happy that he could take care of me and blah blah, that they decided to give him my grandmother's (who passed when I was in HS) GORGEOUS engagement ring. Now I heard from a little bird that it has been sized and it's just ready to go so what is he waiting for?!?!
He's told me for years that he's known how he's going to do it and he's not going to compromise that! I don't need a big thing, we're getting married...give me my RING!!
I know I probably sound ridiculous and I shouldn't care because it means a lot that he's planning a wedding with me (which by the way he is more involved than I EVER thought he would be!). But it's just a sad reminder when I look down at my bare skinny lil finger or even worse, catch our vendors checking it out. Is it bad to say I'm a little embarrassed?
Okay, thanks for listening!

No, it's not bad to say that you're embarrassed. It must be difficult to go to vendors w/o a ring. I think you're brave!

I guess as far as FH and the ring issue, just be patient. He might be planning this elaborate proposal that could be coming up very soon. When you do get it let us know how it happened and we want pictures!!!!

I think I would probably feel the same way in the given situation. Just remember that you opted for the house first so just have a little more patience with FH. He's really taking good care of you so I'm sure he's going to take care of your engagement. It will probably be something that you'll never forget. And I agree, I think that you are brave to go to vendors without a ring. Good luck to you and FH.

I'd be a little embarressed and iffy going to vendors without a ring too, but nowadays not everyone gets an ering but a different kind of gift, so maybe vendors are used to it. I wouldnt be to hard on your FH. Its not the ring that really matters, but that he's committed to spending his life with you and its seems like he is very much

I can totally understand where you're coming from....but I bet he's taking his time to throw you off. the proposal is going to be a great surprise! all good things come to those who wait.

That is completely normal and it's ok to feel that way!!!! However, I think it's important to note how much more level headed that post sounds than you may think it does. You thought rationally about your future, and not many people can say they have a house before the wedding. He earned even more respect than your parents probably thought he would, through saving for that downpayment.

As for the ring, it's completely normal to feel how you are feeling. It's ok. Just remember, when guys want to propose, they want to do it their way on their time schedule and it seems most want to catch the girl off guard. So give him the time, heck you have already. And before you know it, he'll be down on one knee with the most sentimental ring you could have asked for!!!

sorry to crash - but i went thru the same thing!! i knew i was getting engaged by the end of last year, so we booked our RH at the end of October, and when i didn't have my ring by November last eyar i actually got so upset i started fighting with FH all the time. it's not really about the ring itself, or the diamond at least, but what it symbolizes - and how it makes you feel like a bride!

I don't think its bad to be embarrassed at all!

We had a similar situation. We started talking about getting married in July. We looked at rings a few times and i found exactly what we wanted so we mentioned it to his cousin who's a jeweler in Sept.

We started going to bridal shows in Aug and my fear was that someone was going to look at my finger and question it. Because of that I kept my hands in my pockets a lot.

Maybe he's waiting for a special occasion???

Since he can't keep a secret he let it out that the ring was on the way in Dec. We started arguing since I knew he had the ring and he let out that he was planning to give it to me on his bday in March.

My parents wouldn't let us book until I had a ring on my finger.

He surprised me the day before his bday :)

no i understand where your coming from..id probably feel the same way especially with vendors...people probably don't take you serious? right? and thats got to be uncomfortable...but you made a really smart decision by getting a house..thats a much better investment in my opinion

I know how you feel. I posted a reply the last time and you just have to put it out of you head. It will happen. Hes probably waiting for the right moment. It was very special & nice that you are getting a family heirloom. A friend said to me. 'While he knows hes going to marry you and may always known, it is a big step. And buying or getting the ring is one thing Asking is another.' Its the rest of your life give it some time to sink in' You will get that bling just take a deep breath and be patient. I know its hard

Grrrr I feel for you! Give up the ring already! Sometimes if you have to wait and wait and wait you just end up getting pissed off! Anticipation turns into frustration.

I can understand how you feel and I would probably feel the same way. He is really trying to surprise you and you know he defintiely has a plan. Don't worry it will happen soon. I can;t wait to hear about it when it does!!!!!

I can understand that you are getting antsy. If I were you and I knew that he had the ring and that you are planning stuff already, I'd be excited thinking that he may be planning something really special. Hang in there..I'm sure it'll be soon!

Awww I know you feel like it is weird to not have the ring- but just think how special it is going to be when you finally get it knowing he has had it planned for so long! try not to let it get to you!!

My FH had my setting for 5 months. He got the stone separate and I'm not sure how long he had that for. He waited because he was planning something big to propose and wanted it to be a surprise.

It must be hard knowing all that you know!
