So we are finally in the new place and ripping up the rugs...What a nightmare! It took 3 hours just to do the bedroom. The rug part is easy, it is the crap underneath that sux. The carpet padding is so old it falls apart in your hands, and then could they use any more staples???? I must have pulled out over 300 in the bedroom! Tonight we are going to do living room and dining room..UGH..I can't wait!

I did the same thing today, and it TOTALLY sux!!! Some of the padding was glued down and we still have to get that off. It was so worth it to see nice hardwood floors underneath.

Re: Ripping up rugs SUX!
yeah it stinks! i found the hardest part to pull up was our stairs, and we have two landings on the staircase! imagine the staples on stairs...it's worse than in rooms! we've torn up (and since replaced the flooring) in two bedrooms, the upstairs call, the stairway, the living room, and the dining room!

UGH!!! I hated the pulling out the nails and the staples part - that takes FOREVER!!!!
We are buying a newly renovated condo...we plan to pull the carpets up eventually...do you think we should tell them not to put them down at all?

If you don't want carpeting, don't have them install it. It can be a definite pain taking it up!

Re: Ripping up rugs SUX!
All the rugs are up and floors are staple free!! IT took 3 nights but I am so glad it is done! Now we wait for painters on Monday/Tuesday and floor guys Wed/Thur.then we can start moving in!!!
Yabbo-Don't have the rugs put in if you don't want them! You will save so much time and energy!
I just don't want to live with ugly cement floors...although we just found out that we can upgrade and put in wood flooring...don't know how expensive yet though...
