Risky dress purchase?

Risky dress purchase?

So I stopped by a local dress store today and tried on a dress -- the store was having a trunk show for Maggie Sottero and they finally had some dresses in plus size to try on! I tried on a dress, the
Ambrosia

So here is the problem. I LOVE the front of the dress, it fits so nicely and is really form fitting and really different with the lace slit. The problem? I HATE the back of the dress. All of the bubbles and draping, I can't stand it. We spoke with the seamstress and she said that she could actually take the bubbles out and make the dress straight in the back and just cut the extra fabric. But then the next dilemma... the sale is only until Sunday. Now the owner said that if I put down $50 I could hold the dress sale price BUT the dress is on loan from Maggie Sottero and will be leaving the store on Monday!!! I will never be able to try on the dress again and see the color! (it is a ivory color instead of white)

So at this point I really don't know what to do! I've found a few maggies that I like but I really do love the front of this gown but I'm scared that the back just won't be what I want...coupled with never being able to try it on again? I'm scared! But the price and the sale is good....ahhh! Help!!

Edit:: I had my mom take some pictures on her cell phone...they are a little blury...

but now that I keep looking at the back, I don't think I hate it that much! I think I was afraid that all of the poof was going to make me look heavier...

any opinions on how it looks? Pics in my album! Thanks SO much ladies!

This may sound cliche, but on 'Say Yes to the Dress' I've seen them take out the pick-ups and it came out just fine. I think this is a beautiful dress! Are there any other Maggies you can view in the color that you want? Are you sure that changing the dress in the back will make you love it? If you can't say 110% that yes this will make you happy, then I would say keep looking. I honestly was the girl that thought this would never happen, but when you try on the dress for you, you know!! Good luck in whatever you choose!!

Personally I wouldn't rush into this. That same type of thing happened to me and I was told to keep looking. Thank God I did bc I found the most beautiful dress. I tried on a lot but reflecting on it now I'm glad I listened to the advice. For me, if I had to wonder how my dress was gonna look when I made changes I'd be constantly worrying about it in the back of my mind. Also, there are SOOO many places that carry Maggies. You may very likely be able to try on that color again if you call a few stores. Also, I have a post card from a store having a Maggie Trunk show giving 10% or something similar off. I'll have to check it and get back to you! This the season for sales!

I've tried the Ambrosia dress in a few stores. I believe Bridal Reflections of Carle place had it and it wasnt Maggie trunk show. You should be able to try it on at other places if you still aren't completely sure. It's definitely a beautiful dress tho.

Don't rush into it! You have to be confident and sure in your purchase or it will drive you crazy.

Don't rush into it and look around more.

I honestly think you should keep looking. You don't sound 100% thrilled with the dress, and should NOT have to settle on something as important as your wedding dress! Best of luck!

it's a beautiful dress, but you need to be sure. go back and try it on again, or go to another store like someone else said, and take your time. I felt bad how long it took me, i went back and forth between two dresses, then two colors forever, but they were nice and let me take my time.

Don't buy it. I almost bought one but found one with a similar look that was much nicer.
First of all maggie's are made in china so you don't need to order them crazy early, I think you can wait till like 6 mos before the wedding or even less.
Second, you don't know how its going to look when they alter it the way you want. You may hate it and then you are stuck with it.

Also, like the other girl said there are maggie trunk shows all the time, if you have to try it on again take a little trip to the next one in ny or nj.

Good luck!!

Thanks so much girls!!

The manager of the store actually allowed me to 'hold the price' since it was a trunk show sale. He let me hold the price until August 1 so now I can shop around for a while and see what I like and go back and look at this one again if I want.

Because of all this I finally got my rear into gear and made an appointment to go to Kleinfelds next Thursday!! Randy here I come!! Let's hope they have the dress I've been searching for and that I'll love!!!

I agree with the other girls. Their were a lot of dresses that i tried on that i thought were really beautiful but still didn't feel like MY dress (this dress included!) You will know when you try on the dress! trust me! I didn't cry or anything like that but i instantly felt like wow this is the dress im going to wear to my wedding. Their are actually a few maggie dresses that have a design like this. You should try them all on!

You do look beautiful in the dress!!!
