River Cafe, Giando, WatersEdge

Hi everyone, The quest for my reception site continues. We have not set a definite date, so we're very, very flexible. We're now considering getting married at a church in Manhattan(FI volunteers there), but would prefer a reception on the island. In my search, I've come across a couple of reception sites that are close to Manhattan-Giando's and River Cafe in Bklyn, Waters Edge in LIC Queens. Has anyone any experience at any of these places? I'd welcome any other suggestions for reception sites in western Queens or Brooklyn. Thanks everyone!!

Ohhh my god! I am crying at work!! That is so beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing. I'm actually going to translate it into Spanish for my FMIL. I think she will love it.

I looked at Water's Edge. It is located in an industrial area of Long Island City. The surrounding area isn't nice but once inside it is very pretty. You have a great view of the city skyline, especially at night. They even have a shuttle boat that will take your guests from Manhattan directly to Water's Edge. I heard the food was very good. You can even rent a yacht as part of the reception. It was around $125 for a Friday night. They did have some extra charges and manadatory florists but otherwise it was nice.

I just saw it...Thought it was great....a must see during this time!!!!

I went to a wedding more than a few years ago at Water's Edge and it was beautiful -- I agree with Karen, the surrounding area is not so great, but NO complaints about the place itself...I have never been, but I have heard that the River Cafe is also beautiful with great food.

Hi Dani, I used to live in Park Slope and spent alot of time at the Botanical Gardens. I've seen weddings, though I've never been to an affair there. It is absolutely beautiful. Would loooove to have a reception there, but I've heard $$$$. Well, well over $ 100 pp. Have you heard differently? Re: posts down below, don't worry about the neighborhood surrounding the gardens. True, could be a little rough around the edges, but you are fine within the gardens.
Let me know what you find out! Good luck and HAVE FUN with your planning!! :)

I love that song also and that one line was bothering me!!

thank you so much for your positive response, i was left with somewhat of an ill taste in my mouth from my original thread about the BBG. as mentioned, i haven't visited the site yet personally, but plan to soon. from your experience is the area as 'scary' as they say? i can't imagine it is that bad, since it is a major tourist site. it's not like the guests will be taking a stroll around the block and admiring the surroundings outside the gardens. as new yorkers we have become quite street smart and are accustomed to traveling in various areas (good/bad). i don't think it's that big of a deal. from what i was reading in the posts, i got the impression that it is sooo bad that the 'heavy security and iron gates' is enough to scare anyone away. ha ha! well, not enough for us. we will definetly check it out. i understand it is quite pricey, but maybe a fri night will be less expensive.

on a side note, are you familar w/ any botanical gardens on LI? this would be ideal because i think the travel to BBG might be far for some. i was thinking of even hiring a bus for the drinkers, but there goes the price too. good thing is we don't have to go crazy with the flowers.
