Does the Riviera still use Black Forest for their cakes? I was doing some research and the only mention of this was back in 2008. I'd like to schedule a tasting soon.
Help!

Will they do a tasting if we're not officially booked at The Riviera yet? I just called Cascon Bakery (Douglaston Manor bakers) and they won't let me do a tasting unless we're booked there, and it's for a month before the wedding only.

So I'm left to purchase a cake from both places and have my own 'tasting'... Guess we're bringing cake home to share with friends.

hmmmm good to know that you can't go for a tasting until closer to the wedding date... I just called Riviera to find out when I booked our tasting because I totally forgot! lol

Did you visit the Riviera yet? Dying to hear feedback! lol Are you and FH leaning towards these 2 halls now?

Yes, I'm going to The Riviera on Sunday. It's pretty much these two place. Douglaston Manor is still on the radar because we decided to have our friend ordained online to perform the ceremony, and we're not entirely sure if he needs to perform the ceremony in NYC. Nassau/Suffolk don't allow it, but I've done some research, and if we get our marriage license in NYC, and he gets registered in NYC, he can still perform the ceremony anywhere in NYS. If this is possible, then I'd probably go with the Riviera. If it's not possible, then we're going with Douglaston Manor.

Ok, just spoke to Michelle at The Riviera. they don't use Black Forest anymore! Black Forest backed out saying they are too busy to do catering halls anymore. Bummer! They use Campbell's Bakery in Bayshore. Anyone heard of this place?

Ohh ok gotcha. Our best man is ordained and we are planning to use him for our ceremony as well. I'm still a little fuzzy on the rules myself but he lives seems pretty sure he's good to go so i'm trusting him lol When it gets closer I will look further into that.

I read the reviews on Yelp, and they're really good. Not too many pics, but the ones I saw, the cakes are beautiful.

This is a huge detail that needs to be thoroughly researched. I read a NY Times article that was published last November that talks about a couple in Suffolk County who did this, and when they filed for divorce, they found out they were never legally married, and therefore their prenup was void.
I'm not looking to get divorced again, but I don't want any surprises either.

I work there now as a decorator to make some extra cash on the side! Love it! They have really upped their style.. some of the cakes we've been sending out have been gorgeous. LOL

It is Campbell's in Brentwood. They have a whole book of cakes you can choose from, or they can help you design your own. HTH
