Riviera Maya

DH and I are planning a trip for our anniversary and we were thinking of the Riviera Maya.
If you have been there or are going can you please recommend places to stay. Also I noticed in a lot of pictures that there are a lot of reptiles there. I am terrified of even the smallest iguana so if this is the case please let me know.

Feel free to recommend other islands as well.

we went there on our HM, stayed at excellence and had a fantastic time. we're going back to mexico next month, but staying in cancun at the Sun Palace which is couples only.

if you don't like iguana, stay away from tulum - they are overrun w/ iguanas. actually, excellence did have a couple of iguanas also, but they stayed by the spa pool. only saw them if you were in that pool.

Thanks! Maybe we will do Cancun again, I dont remember seeing any iguanas there. Is Tulum the place where the ruins are?

tulum has ruins, as does chitchen itza. tulum is on the beach, and that's what makes it sooo beautiful. look at my HM pics, where we're on the cliff, that's tulum. gorgeous, but it's owned by the iggys! i don't recall seeing them at chitchen itza though. that's where the big pyramid is.

We are going here for our honeymoon and we are staying at the Valentin Imperial Maya. Its all inclusive and adults only. It came highly recommended by my travel agent. Plus I've read a ton of great reviews on trip advisor.
