Riviera Maya Honeymoon- Excellence Playa Murejes vs. Secrets Maroma Beach
**Just posted this on BHB...figured I'd post here too. Thanks!!**
Hey Ladies!
I’m feeling so conflicted over these two resorts. I just don’t know which one to choose! Excellence Playa Murejes has gotten soooo many rave reviews from the posts I’ve been reading through on here but Secrets Maroma Beach was ranked higher on trip advisor. Also, I saw that EPM was one of the resorts that was the furthest away from the airport and I heard that the beach there was a public beach? Just wondering if that was a big deal or not… Maybe someone can guide me in the right direction! You guys have never let me down before.
Also, on a side note, has anyone done the excursions that their resort offered in the Cancun/Riviera Maya area? I desperately want to go to the Mayan ruins but was a little concerned about the safety factor being that it is Mexico. Thanks!!!
We are going to EPM. Didn't really look into a ton of resorts, just heard about this one and booked it! We were just happy to get a real true honeymoon in our budget (5k). We chose two excursions, Tulum Xel-Ha all inclusive (Mayan ruins then a natural water park), and Isla Mujeres snorkel by catamaran. We aren't concerned because the mayan rivera is so far from where all the violence really is. Border towns are worse than cancun!

This!
we are booked at EPM. I compared this resort with Secerets a million times... In my opinion you get so much more for your money at EPM.
I am booked in the 2 story rooftop tearrace with private jacuzzi and balcony that has chaise lounges and big round bed. This was perfect for what I was looking for. I am looking so forward to waking up and going out on my big balcony, taking a nap on my round bed, and ending the night in the jacuzzi looking at the stars.
If you read some of the reviews on Secrets, people complained that the balcony, and jacuzzi were too small. Also that the lounge was really uncomfortable because it was cement with a cushion on top.
This is just my personal opinion of course. Secerets looks amazing as well, and onv has amazing reviews, you cant go wrong with either. It depends on what you are looking for.
ETA: I believe that the beach is private.. not 100% sure though. I do remember reading a post on Trip Advisor that security on the beach was super tight.
except to say that Maroma Beach is gorgeous! Rated one of the top beaches in the world
I went to riviera maya last year and going again this year for our honeymoon
we did the tulum tour, we did a 3 in 1 we visited Tulum then a cenote (which i highly highly rec you go and see when you are in mexico it is one of the most amazing beautiful things I have ever seen!) rock climbing and zip lining
and i wouldnt worry about the safety, you will be with a tour company and you are very far away from any of the drama going on there...the drama is all the way north by texas and you will be all the way south
We went to EPM last November, it was AMAZING except the beach isnt all that great. It is small and there was a lot of seagrass in the water and on the shore. We went in the water once and we were there for 8 days. But I would still go back. It was that amazing, it just depends how important the beach is to you. The pools are beautiful and sooooo relaxing.
Oh and it is the farthest from the airport, its like 25-30 mins away. But we thought that was what was so gorgeous about it. It was secluded and so quiet. I have nothing but good things to say about it.
I'm booked at EPM - Honestly, I found it - heard great things and booked immediately. I think I'm going to book an excursion as a gift to FH - he'd love the sights.

Can you tell me where you booked the excursions - we just booked our HM, but didn't book excursions and FH would LOVEEEEE Tulum. I totally want to surprise him and do it.
