This is what I am hoping - that enough people are scared away from Penn Station that it won't be that bad.

I feel bad for DH...he works on 31st between 9th and 10th and has to get off the subway at Penn Station. His boss still hasn't told them what the schedule will be next week.
I'm on 26th between 6th and B'way, so I should be fine, but a whole lot of people are taking off here and we can't have clients come in. I'll be on here all day!

Re: RNC Transportation Alert
I also feel for those of you going in/out of Penn and or who work in that area.. I am far enough away from it (on 7th and 52nd) and I come in/out of Grand Central. But still I'd rather be off than here (though I'll definitely be HERE on LIWs, as usual)
My lawfirm does not expect ANY clients, and 90% of the attorneys are staying away. My supervisor already told me to expect an incredibly dull, boring week.
Are any of your offices doing anything 'Special' to compensate for the aggravation we will have commuting next week? They are giving us free breakfast every day and letting us dress in jeans and sneaks for the week.. not much, but I'll take it!

i'm afraid grand central will be no picnic either. My company is VERY flexible. I could have worked from home that entire week, but boosh doesn't have that luxury and she has no vacation time left that isn't already accounted for. I'd hate like hell to be home and then if god forbid something happens, I can't get to her.
This way, if something happens, I can get her and we'll go to my cousin's house. I already told my company that I'll be in early, like around 7:30 and leaving around 4, so boosh and i can go in and home together

Re: RNC Transportation Alert
glad i took today off! NOT looking forward to next week. I come into Penn every day and work on 34th & B'way, a block away from Penn. The way I am looking at it is, if it becomes too much of a hassle to get there, or if i feel unsafe in any way - I am going back home. I don't care.

Not at all.
There's a big trade show for my industry out in Vegas so half the office will be there. I know several people took the week off also.
I hate that we are right up the street though (33rd near 5th). There will be security checks just to walk up the street.
Did Boston have this much security & prep?

Yeah, it was crazy. I was staying at the Cape w/ my cousin from Boston. She couldn't get to her home b/c it was right in the middle of everything. It's crazy to have this RNC in NYC, what were they thinking???

What were they thinking having it in the Garden? Last I checked we have a great big Convention center on the west side.
I don't know much, but I can't help but think it would be easier to secure things there vs MSG with a major transportation hub, multi entrance sports arena, major shopping area and dozens of office buildings.

ARrrggh!! This is so annoying. My wedding is in LI on Sunday and I have guests and FH and his family all staying in the city (where we live). I am so frustrated

Re: RNC Transportation Alert
I'm dreading next week. Most of my firm will be out; but because my wedding is later in the month, I can't stay home. As it is I don't have enough vacation days for my honeymoon so my paycheck will be docked.
The only good thing about this convention is that I am hoping that I will be able to get a better parking spot at the station.
To Shelly, I will be thinking of you this weekend.

Re: RNC Transportation Alert
Thanks so much Don for that alert!
I was lucky enough to get that week off - but I asked way back in June before anyone could beat me to it! They're starting to clsoe sterrets already though? I wasn't expecting anything like that until this weekend at the earliest.... I wonder how that's going to affect the Penn commute to and from now for the rest of the week.....
I'm another one who's hoping it's all a bunch of hype, but I still can't help worrying about it... Why did they have to have this in NYC, is it really going to bring in as much as the city has already spent on the 'preparation' costs?!? I heard that the people at the Boston convention hardly spent anything while they were there... i personally think it was a huge mistake to have the RNC here in midtown - but I guess we all have to just wait and see how it turns out. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for all you LIW commuters next week!!
