Road Rage

Marymoon's tailgating question made me think of this -

I never understood road rage, until I (recently) learned to drive. (I am mostly from the city so I learned late - very late!)

I stopped at a STOP sign in an area that is often used as a short-cut to Smithtown. A lot of people don't stop, they just 'pause' or slow down and keep going.

Well, when I stopped this car behind me starts using their horn. I hadn't even been there 1/2 a second, I mean, as soon as I stopped the horn starts.

I wanted to get out of the car right then and there and go scream at the #*$(&. I actually put my car in park and was about to get out and then I realized, what the heck am I doing? They could be a crazy person. And here I am, acting crazy myself!

I was so angry. I was obeying the rules for goodness sake! In a residential area!

Anyway, now I understand road rage...I still think it is very dangerous and stupid, but boy, it is really a setting for some bad behavior.

When people do that to me, I find making sarcastic comments to them helps me through it.

When people do that I make sure I do 20 down the rest of the block. If see they want to go around me I speed up and swerve that way. 2 can play at that game!

Ohhh I sooo do this too-which can prob be more dangerous to a point... but, I get so mad at these stupid people

It's a good thing you didn't get out of the car--I was at a red light and it turned green and another car came zooming around (he went through the red light on the other side) so I stopped, and this psycho behind me starts screaming and yelling!! I made the turn and he started tailgating me and then he'd back off, and then he'd floor it, almost hitting me... I was terrified. we then get to a red light on a one way street wtih a LOOOOONG line of cars. He drove onto the shoulder, INCHES away from my car, rolled down the windows and started punching his fist at me and my passenger side window, SCREAMING that he was going to kill me!!!

I just kept telling myself, don't look, don't look at him, please turn green light, please turn green!!!

The light changed and I hoped that he'd go ahead of me but he waited and the people behind me honked. You would have thought they'd do something seeing how crazy he was!

I drove a few blocks with him tailgating me, freaking out, and he still followed me. I got on to the LIE thinking, OK, he'll leave me alone... but he kept doing it! So I changed lanes. He changed lanes. I slowed down, and he got closer and closer! So I had to go faster and faster to get away from him!!!

My heart was pounding SO fast and I was SHAKING! I then realized I had my cell phone. Just then it rang and me in my panic thought it was the psycho!! But it was my SO, who wanted me to drive to his house so he could 'take care of the psycho' I refused because I didn't want him to know where I lived.

He told me to call the police... then i dropped the phone.. i yelled to him that i was going to drive to the police station.. I got on the LIE at exit 57, and the only police station i knew was 68.. he followed me, swerving, screaming, trying to run me off the road, at 90+mph sometimes, rush hour, he finally backed off at exit 66, I can still remember his face and his wild eyes and his ****** little white car. I only wish I could have gotten his plate number, but he was always too close to me to see it in the mirror!!!

SO just curse at people when they drive like azzholes... to yourself... you never know when you'll get a psycho!! I never ever make any gestures or anything, I just curse to myself and think of something an old friend used to say, 'where did you get your license, Kmart?'

i had a case of road rage recently, which in retrospect was stupid! i was driving on my way to westchester on a highway, and i was in the middle lane which had pothole after pothole. i tried to switch into the left most lane, and i didnt see a car in my blindspot, so i kinda cut this car off. so the girl in this car then switches over to the right most lane, speeds up and flips me off.

i dont know what came over me, but i was PISSED off that she flipped me off--geez i accidentally cut her off--no need to give me the bird!!! so anyways, i myself start speeding up, start chasing her down the freeway, tailgating her, then pull up right next to her and start honking my horn and flipping the bird at her. Yes i know that was very psycho of me!

Wait, I'm trying to understand what you did to make this guy so mad - you were trying to make a turn but had to stop because someone ran a red light going in the other direction? So, he expected you to make the turn anyway and risk getting hit by the guy running the red light?
I've never heard of such a psycho thing happening! Glad you got away ok

Yep, the only thing I did was slam on my brakes so I wouldn't hit the other guy!!!

Freak!!! Now I'm so careful about Road Rage...

Oh my god. I can't believe somebody would go to those extremes over something like that. What a psycho! Makes you think twice about acting out on your road rage.

I am sarcastic too. When someone starts to go pyscho I just smile and wave. Oh boy, that makes them more mad. I try not to get myself excited. Why should I give myself high blood pressure when they are the wacko.
