Is it called the Glider, the one with the footrest meant for breastfeeding moms??
Is this chair worth it? My SIL says it's not, but need more opinions.
Thanks!

Re: Rocking Chair/Glider??
I didn't have a glider on my registry. I didnt think I was going to need one. HOWEVER when I returned home from having my c-section it was the only chair I could sit in and get out of comfortably for 2 months. It is nice to sit and rock a nursing baby in but it is definately not necessary by any means. If I had a chair that I could get in and out of easily I wouldnt have the chair. JMO

Re: Rocking Chair/Glider??
Again, this is one of those things that you could live without, OR you may wonder how you would survive if you didn't have it....it's all going to depend on what is soothing for you and your baby.
I used my glider ALOT when Paul was first born - either for breastfeeding or just softly rocking with him in my arms. I found it to be relaxing, and so a relaxed Mom = a relaxed baby. We used it less often when we first moved back to NY. However, it became invaluable a few weeks ago when Paul had his first cold, and lately he enjoys sitting in it w/me to read books or just rock before bed. I plan to put the chair and ottoman in his room when we move into the new house.
But overall, I wouldn't say that the glider is a 'must have.' If you are tight for space in your house/apartment, you might not want to make the investment.
If you do decide to purchase one, I suggest testing many of the chairs in the furniture stores or baby stores (like BRU or BBB). They all look relatively the same, but some of them are slightly wider and deeper, making them a lot more comfy when you're sitting in them for a long while (during BFing, for instance).
Also, you might consider choosing a neutral fabric that will blend well with the furniture in the rest of your home. You never know where the chair may end up after the baby is older and there's no more nursery.

Re: Rocking Chair/Glider??
I have one here collecting dust . My sister lent me hers, and Im counting the days that she takes it back. DH has sat in it more than me. When I was BFing, I didnt find it useful because the boppy doesnt fit within the space that I sat in. Yes its comfy and yes it rocks, but I have a rocking armchair that matches my leather sectional, which is even more comfy. Its all a matter of opinion. I cant wait till its out of my house !!

Re: Rocking Chair/Glider??
I love mine--- after the birth -- it also was the only chair I could sit in ... My son Aidan loves rocking with me and it is soooo relaxing on those nights where you need to be in the baby's room because they wake up every hour !!! LOL

This is a new one from Pottery Barn. Not cheap, but I would use it even now (no baby). It looks so darn comfy! I think having a rocking chair/glider is a beautiful thing for a mother. I look forward to sitting in one with my baby someday.

Re: Rocking Chair/Glider??
Michele - that does look like a comfy chair. But, one thing about it...it looks like someone like you and I (vertically challenged people) would find it actually uncomfortable to sit in b/c it doesn't have an ottoman or stool to stabilize the chair during a feeding. This is critically important for BFing Moms, so the Pottery Barn chair is probably not practical if someone wants to use it for feedings. Otherwise, if you have the budget to spend so much on a rocker, go for it!

Pottery barn also has a yellow one --very similar to the blue that is beyond comfortable-- My SIL has it for twin nieces--- depending on the room I think it is a nicer look but again no ottoman--- I agree with sitting in them first because they all feel completely different Laura

Re: Rocking Chair/Glider??
My SIL sent her up to me ...with the baby furniture. I find it invaluable...I have a glider but now ottoman. Most people find the ottoman useless- but that is up to you. See if you can buy one second hand or borrow one.
I use mine when BFeeding-with the boppy and it works fine- also it is my main seat in the living room since it is comfortable for me and also good to rock Julianne to sleep...

Re: Rocking Chair/Glider??
Can that chair lock into place, or will it always be rocking? That's the one feature that's great about the glider....if you don't want to rock, you can make the chair stationary. It's nice to have the option.
Edited to add - I just looked at that set online That's over $1200 for the rocker/ottoman set!!! That's a lot of money for something that's gonna be spit up/peed on eventually!

cover is washable so no problem there. And I said it was pricey, but it looks sooo worth every penny.

Re: Rocking Chair/Glider??
We went to BRU today to register and we chose a glider from Dutailer, Inc. It was SOOOO comfy, I want it now!!
Kathi, I'm feeling great! I get pretty tired by the end of the day, and I'm not very active after work, partly due to this weather. I do feel like I've been pregnant forever, but it's not because I'm uncomfortable, it's because I've been pregnant the entire fall and winter, and can't wait til it's warmer out! Thanks for asking!
