Rod Stewart concert this weekend!!!
DH and I went on Saturday night to Jones Beach.
First off, we got there early with dinner, and parked right by the entrance (the one that on the other side of the lot from the theatre) and it totally made a difference in getting out, we were so close to the exit (first line of parking) that we were able to shoot out of there and not wait in line
We also got orchestra seats when we went. So tired of being all the way in the back. We had section F and were right next to where some of the sound/camera crew were and were facing the stage dead center.
No opening act, which I like because you never know who you're going to get sometimes (it didn't say he was having one on the ticket either). He did all the big hits, he did some oldies ('Every Picture Tells a Story' - that's my favorite) and did a duet with one of the backup singers which I think he originally did with Tina Turner (It Takes Two). Then he had his 17 year old daughter (her mother is Alana Stewart I believe) come out and she sang a cover version of a song which escapes me now. She has a good voice - she definitely should work on it because she could become a great singer. But she screwed up towards the end and she kept saying 'sorry about that'. But not bad for a 17 year old (singing on her own in front of Jones Beach theatre). Then he did a few more songs and then they changed the set for his 'American Songbook' songs. He wore a tux with tails, his band wore white tuxes and backup singers wore ivory gowns. I have to say that very few artists impress me live. But he totally impressed me -he sang really well and seemed to have a good time on stage. Wasn't too talky but did have a repoire with the audience. And he tossed out a bunch of soccer balls (they were more like beach balls that looked like soccer balls) He's a big Celtic football fan, DH told me.
And the set was cool - along with the 2 monitors there was another in the middle of the set above them and it showed alot of cartoon-y stuff (Rod stewart as a cartoon was too funny) and other shots of him throughout his career.
I'm not the hugest Rod Stewart fan but I really enjoyed the concert!
