Rolling over in crib, should I flip back over?

Rolling over in crib, should I flip back over?

My son is 4 months old now, and finally, this morning, I found him on his stomach. He has been sleeping on his back (and sometimes side when he turns) but I guess now he is finally turning over in his crib. He doesn't have the ability yet to turn back over. I just put him back in after feeding, hoping he would go back to sleep, and he had turned again.

My question: If he is not fussing and is sleeping soundly and I find him on his stomach, should I turn him back over? Or is it past the critical stage where I have to worry about SIDS? Please help... I'm confused as to what I should do and don't want to worry every night now. Thanks.

Make sure you take all pillows, quilts, stuffed toys, bumper pads and other soft items out of the crib. Other than that, I have read often that once the baby can roll onto his stomach that your SIDS risk has dropped significantly -even if he can't roll back, he must have a strong neck by now to turn his head. Keep putting him on his back when you lie him down, but try not to worry beyond that.

If it will help you rest better, you can also consider purchasing one of those Angelcare monitors that go under the mattress to detect movement.

I agree with Calla, remove all items from the crib, the only thing that should be in there is THE BABY! Once he is able to turn over he has the neck strength to move his head around, so he would be able to move if he felt his nose was covered. I know it's scary, but this is just another milestone, he's doing what he is suppose to be doing.
