We are going with rolling pin for our cake since it comes with no charge from SLCC. Anybody here have a tasting with rolling pin? How does that work? You place an order for what you want to try and then you just go in, pick it up, and try it at home and then let them know what you want? It's about an hour away from my house and seems like a waste of time.
Did you get the petite size to taste or the large split cake?

I'm in the same boat. It's an hour away from me too so I wanted to go two weeks ago when I was off from work, but they were closed. So now I don't know when I'll get a chance to get back there.

We did it! You order it online, pick it up whenever you want (you specify online) and taste at home. I assume your hall will give you the go ahead as to when you meet to discuss the actual cake.
We got the smaller option. It is basically 6 cupcakes with the filling squirted in the middle. It was more than enough for FH and I to taste, and even for our family to help out a bit.
The Stony Brook location is very close to downtown Stony Brook and even downtown Port Jeff. So I suggest, if its an hour trip for you, making a day of it! Have a date day, grab lunch, sit on the dock if its not too cold, do a little shopping, and bring home your tasting!

I didn't have them for our wedding cake but I did a grooms cake for our RD through them. Their chocolate cake was great and we did a canoli filling with chocolate chips that DH loved.

I spoke to the bakery about it. You order what you want to taste online, pick it up and decide. I was told that they need to know 2-3 weeks in advance and you just tell them which cake off their website you would like, and what colors you would like. I was told it can all be done through email once you decide on your flavors.

Is there a fee for the cake samples?? I thought I heard that somewhere that they charge but I was curious if that is true?

Wait they need 2-3 weeks before you pick up the tasting or 2-3 weeks before the wedding? Lol

You can order up to 6 samples. The Petite size split cakes $2.00/each The Large size split cakes $3.95/each
They must be picked up in the Setauket location.
You fill out the online form, wait 24 hours for confirmation of the order or if ordered on Friday wait until Monday for confirmation.
I can't tell you more because we haven't done it yet.

We did our cake tasting through Rolling Pin. I ordered them two days earlier and then picked them up. We got 4 different samples of the large size split cakes (but we were tasting with my parents, sisters and FH's mom and grandma). And the large one was just right for all of us. We paid for them, pricing is on their website.

I just picked up our samples on Friday, there about an hour from me too. I ordered the larger cakes and they're very large cupcakes, but they were only $20 for the 5 large samples so it was worth it to have extra! Just be careful, I used google maps on my iPhone and it took me in the wrong direction. When I used mapquest I found the place LOL. Maybe it was just my phone but I was very frustrated! Make sure if you take Nichols rd when you get to the end (25a) you make a right and not a left! :) the samples were delicious by the way! We loved the mocha and raspberry mouse!

They told me that they only need to know what I want for the cake 2-3 weeks prior to the wedding. I plan on doing it much farther in advance. The samples cost different amounts and depending on which cake you pick and style you pick you may have to pay out of pocket.

Yes the same thing happened to me, and I have been there several times! It might be better to put in another store in the shopping center... is that a Best Yet or a Wild by Nature grocery store?

Still annoyed that I'll have to drive all the way out there to get the samples. Guess I will be making a day out of it! Lol

FH & I would love to do a chocolate cake but my mom thinks thats untraditional... My mom is not a crazy mother of the bride lol she was just saying that people typically don't do that but its up to us... is that true? honestly I have only been to a couple weddings and I don't really remember much about the cakes lol
