Is anyone getting married in a church other then their own>? How does this work? I want to get married in a cathdral traditional church by my cousin who is a priest and my church is very modern. Im going to call him this week i believe he said it was fine but now im wondering if there is a process or not to marry outside your home church?

Re: Roman Catholic Church
I had a very hard time trying to find a church that was not my own. If you want a different church that you do not belong to; some catholic churches will not marry you because you do not belong to them or live in their town. I finally found one and I have to get a letter from my church stating that I can get married at the one I choose and get my baptism papers sent to the new church. HTH

Re: Roman Catholic Church
Neither I nor FH belong to a church. We decided to get married in my mother's parish. We had no problem at all. When the priest asked us our parishes, we said we didn't have one and he said 'ok' and then moved on.
As far as supplying any paperwork, we will need to provide our baptismal certificates (they have to be dated within 6 months of the wedding, so for us that's sometime after May) and the banns of marriage will be posted in the parish's bulletin.
I believe that for an 'outside' priest to marry you at a church, however, he needs to send a formal request letter to the parish, but that can be talked about at the first meeting with the church.
Good luck.

Re: Roman Catholic Church
Honestly it really depends on the church. I am technically not a parishioner at the church I am getting married at, but they are going to marry me w/o any problems (its the church I was baptized in, but we switched parishes)

Neither FH or myself are parishioners of the church we are getting marries in. We liked another church so much more, so we made an appt to meet with the priest there. We do need a letter from your own parish release letter (your parents parish, if you aren't really parishioner - we didn't provide weekly envelopes), with their approval and we also need to provide our baptismal certificate dated 6 months prior to your wedding (not sure why it has to be 6 months prior). Other than that, we are able to get married a parish other than our own.

The priest who is marrying us explained that the reason the baptismal certificate has to be dated within 6 months is that everything you do in any RC church from the time of your baptism is noted on your baptismal certificate. Every other sacarament (communion, confirmation) is on there as well. The reason it has to be dated within 6 months is to prove that you have not been excommunicated! Who knew?

Re: Roman Catholic Church
We had the same issue. I wanted an older looking church and I don't really like mine (too modern also). It was difficult...but, we found a church we both liked that was easy to deal with. FH actually searched on the internet. A lot of churches have websites now and it will actually state whether or not 'non-members' can be married there. They were very nice at the church we found and just required baptism certificates from each of us that we had to get from our churches.
