Room Blocking Question- Did anyone go over?

Room Blocking Question- Did anyone go over?

We blocked off 25 rooms for our wedding at the Wingate. As of now, we have 17 rooms booked- and our invites just went out this week, so I am assuming there will be a spike in room reservations.

I am thinking I will most certainly go over- I have alerted the Wingate to this, and they have told me it should not be a problem- but as of now, the hotel is booked with room blocks for 3 or 4 other weddings and a stupid college sports team.

Should I contact another hotel and reserve 10 rooms as back-up? Have any of you experienced this? I want everyone at the same hotel- as we are doing a brunch there the next morning.

I don't know if it's possible for you to negotiate to add more rooms to your block. We had to do that because the rooms they designated to us in our room block were gone just for our families and bridal parties, because we had told them to book the rooms first before the rest of our guests. We were able to add 10 more rooms to our block for our guests. We did end up blocking rooms at another hotel just in case. Maybe if you can find another hotel that's close by, it won't be so bad for them to drive over the next day for brunch?

WE just hit our 12 room block, but I know theres more rooms available. Im calling the sales agent at the hotel tommorow to see if we can get at least 5 more rooms added..they told me this was possible at the beginning if they had the rooms still( Im sure they no, theres nothing major neraby etc) and if we booked all the original 12 rooms.

yeah- the hotel at this point is booked- due to other room blocks- but that doesn't mean that the rooms will not become available. This is what the sales person told me there.

I am just trying to figure out if I should sit tight, or block more rooms. Maybe I will make some calls and arrange for 1- rooms at either the Marriott or Hilton Garden Inn-- anyone block rooms there? What are the requirements?

I'm running into the same thing. I only blocked 15 and I know of 10 that are already booked and invitations haven't even gone out!

I called yesterday to see if I could add more to my block. I think that's the best bet.

I wouldn't bother yourself with another hotel for two reasons -

1) while you may go over, 10 over when you still have 13 left on your block is a lot to go over and if it's not 10 they don't get the rate

2) there's no way to communicate this to the guests since you're uncertain precisely who it is that will be shut out and your invites are already gone. If people get shutout they'll find their own hotels through expedia, etc.

Edited for spelling.

My hotel (Marriott in Islandia) told me that if they see the rooms booking up I can block off an additional amount. I would ask them if they will block of 10 more rooms because you booked up your original block already. If not I would block off rooms at another near by hotel. Better safe than sorry and it doesn’t cost anything!
Eitherway I wouldnt stress. Most of the people wanting hotel rooms have probably already booked. There may just be a few last minute people.

Is your family, bridal party and OOt'ers already booked? or is it randum guests?

I cannot add any rooms to my block at this time- the hotel is booked. Rooms may be released from other blocks who don't book- but as of now- no more rooms.

Right now- it is wedding part and close OOT.. and everyone had info MONTHS ago to book.. so it is their fault, not mine. But I still feel like I should try to accomodate.

I am going to call Marriot and Hilton Garden Inn and see what the deal is there. If I don't have to put a CC down- I will just block 10 rooms to be safe.. it is easy for me to do it- not a big deal.

I would block at another hotel just in case, and make sure you won't be penalized if no one books.....usually they don't but make sure you get it in writing
