Room blocks

What hotels have you ladies booked that dont hold you responsible if all the rooms arent booked? FH tried calling yesterday and said they all say your responsible, and that you need to know exactly how many rooms you need lol I think he just doesnt know what to ask for, so I am going to take over lol. Thanks in advance!

La quinta in garden city.... for a 15 room block, we arent responsible for any rooms not booked... if you try to block more, you will get charged...

Thats BULLCRAP! I have never head of such a thing! I have a post about blocking rooms on this board thats active right now. At a high end hotel I am *not* responsablle for unused rooms.

I have a contract with them. You tell them that its crazy!

Is anyone else responsable for unused rooms????? I have never heard of such a thing! And it does NOT mean I am right. I think they are trying to do something because of the economy. I would call La quinta Headquarters and find out what corporate policy is.

No, you def should be held responsible if you are blocking a large # of rooms... Its not fair to the hotel either if alot of the rooms go unbooked... and they lose out on $$ they could have gotten from others... I mean, they release the rooms 1 month before, they should be able to rebook some, but for alot of people, hotel rooms are booked more than 1 month in advance

No I know .. (although I have heard that they Hyatt in I think that is islandia does charge you for unused rooms but I havent spoken to them personally) I think FH was asking to 'reserve' rooms maybe Who knows! So I just thought I would ask on here to get some feed back. Sorry making another topic when there was already one on the boards! I should have looked. THanks for all the info thus far though. Anyone know any hotels located in suffolk that they have had experience with?

Re: Room blocks

I looked into both the Melville Marriott and the Huntington Hilton for our room blocks so I can give you the info on those. I also called the Hyatt in Islandia (which is one that the TC recommends I think). Unfortunately, there aren't that many hotels close to TC (so we're a little bit limited). If you need any info on the ones I looked at, feel free to FM me.

We didn't block with them because of this, but the Roslyn Claremont Hotel makes you block a minimum of 10 rooms, and if 80% is not booked, you are responsible for the remainder unbooked. We used the LaQuinta Garden City in the end, with a 15 room block you are not responsible for unbooked rooms. Any unbooked rooms 4 weeks prior to the date go back into circulation.

The Islandia Marriot off the LIE doesn't hold you accountable.

Re: Room blocks

I also booked La Quinta and they hold the rooms until a month before, and we are not responsible for them. How many rooms were you going to block? Was it over 15?

Re: Room blocks

I don't think we are going to block rooms. People are coming from all over I would have to block rooms at like 4 different hotels....no thanx! I think I am just going to put a list of hotels in the area with the pricing and let them decide where they want to stay.

Re: Room blocks

The Four Points Sheraton doesn't hold you responsible, but you can only hold 15 rooms at a time. Once those are filled you can add more.

The Marriott in Farmingdale doesnt hold you responsible for any rooms not booked.

Re: Room blocks

We were going to book at the Hyatt, but their contract had a clause like that. That freaked us out way too much, so we chose a different hotel instead. We are going with the Marriott Islandia

Re: Room blocks

I booked Best Western Woodbury, and we ARE responsible if 75% of the rooms aren't booked by June 10th. *****, but I think we'll have that with no problems, considering the number of out-of-towners we have coming in.

Re: Room blocks

We're blocked at the Melville Marriott. The person I've been working with there has been incredibly patient and nice about it.

We only blocked off 15 rooms. If we wanted to block off more than that, we had to guarrantee 1/2 of the total. I was going to block off 25, which would force me to guarrantee 13, but I got nervous about people shopping around or not coming and didn't want to be financially obligated. So I blocked the 15 instead and was told I can add to it if we get close to all booked.

HTH. Feel free to FM if you have any other questions.
