We're finally up to reserving a room block in or near Riverhead. Did you call to make an appointment with each hotel or just show up? About how much time should I allow for each hotel? Any good bargaining tips? (Wondering if I could get them to throw in a free room.)

I got a few places down $10 per room... it depends on the hotel and the date of your wedding. Everything is negotiable!!!

I walked into the Holiday Inn Express in Riverhead, called the Best Western, and walked into the Hilton Garden Inn (I'm on the waiting list there though). They're pretty flexible. I didn't try for a free room, but I'm sure if you can guarantee a certain amount they have to do something for you. Good luck!!
We went with courtyard marriott in ronkonkoma - I just called them up - they explain everything to me over the phone and emailed me the contract to sign and mail back - couldn't have been easier...
