Room Layout
Hi everyone! So i'm having a difficult time deciding between two venues. One is Lombardi's on the Bay and the other is one in CT. Since this is Long island weddings and I know you guys haven't seen the place in CT I'm going to ask a general question. How important was the room layout to you guys when you were deciding on venues? The place I like in CT unfortunately has the dance floor in a weird spot, not the usual with the dance floor in the middle and tables around. It is set up with the tables filling the room and at one of the ends of the room the dance floor is set back there. It was so weird to me when I first looked but we don't meet the minimum of the larger room (with the normal set up). I'm torn because I love the outside of it and it's so much cheaper than Lombardi's. Do you think people will think it's weird?

I don't think it sounds too bad. At the fox hollow - in the somerley room - what I liked about it was that the dance floor was up in the front and all of the tables were in the back. I think it's called NEw York style or something.

I felt like I was in a similar situation. every venue we went to had the dance floor in the middle and tables around the outside of it. Until we went to Timber Point. Before they redid the floors the dance floor was in the front corner of the room. Now the whole room is hardwood so you can choose how you want it set up. I asked our DJ what he suggested because he has done so many weddings there and he said it still works better with the dance floor in the corner. He said people who aren't big dancers dont feel obligated to dance and you dont have to divide the families on either side of the dance floor. Go with what you feel is right! Maybe try and talk to DJ's who have done weddings there and ask if they have ever seen it as a problem.

I know that Old Field Club is like that- a separate dance floor area. The only reason i didn't like that layout was because the bar and dance floor were the same space. However, had the bar and dance floor not been in the same space, i would have been more accepting of the lay out so that was a deal breaker. As far as the layout of my venue- i didn't take it into consideration because i loved the venue. But it did play a role when i didn't like it right away. Its up to you what you feel is more comfortable and can meet the needs of your wedding.

I have been to a wedding like that where the building was an L shape and we hated it. We were all the way in the back corner, so we were where your table 13 would be. We had no idea that dancing was going on, couldn't see anything passed where table 7 would be and it was just a pain. I would never have my wedding in a room like that based on my experience. That being said, I don't think people will think it's weird but I do think they'll find it annoying. But it's your wedding and you should do it at the place you want but I do think you should think about the comfort of your guests. Sorry, don't mean to sound like a jerk.

I don't think it's a big deal. Like one of the previous posters said there's a room at fox hollow like that and I didn't think it was strange when I went to a wedding there. Also think about the mansion at west sayville an coindre hall, both of those places have the dance floor in a separate room and that doesn't stop people from having a good time.

Re: Room Layout
Room layout was pretty important. For starters, my FH had this thing where he wanted a defined dance floor. You know, like how there's carpet where the seats are but wood for the dance floor, lol. Thank the Lord that when we fell in love with Chateau Briand, which I had my eye on, that even if it didn't have carpeting where the tables were, the dance floor was pretty defined anyway.Yeah, I know, he's a character!
