Ross & Monica's 'routine'-I swear this is wedding related
I know of a lot of people taking dance lessons for their 'first dance' as husband and wife. We've thought about this, BUT I keep thinking that it is going to come off like 'the Routine' that Ross and Monica did in the New Years Eve episode of 'Friends' a few years ago. What does everyone else think of dance lessons? Of course, it seems the only alternative to this is the old 'clutch and sway'-equally uncomfortable. Seriously, this is my last post of the night...

Lots of girls take dance lessons on here and highly recommend them. As for us, we'll be doing the :newlywed sway: We didn't think about lessons early enough and it's kind of too late now.

omg that is soooooo funny!
Lessons will help you to be more comfortable and then after you know the 'way' to slow dance you can be more at ease and not follow the steps exactly

We took dance lessons but we didn't learn a routine. They sometimes recommend you not to learn a routine, because then if you forget something you mess up and then what? So we learned a few steps and it was funny because we were kind of talking each other through it - like should we do the next one now? We definitely had so much fun taking them and our guests loved watching us dance our first dance.

FH and I took a few over the last month. The lessons were so helpful.
We didn't learn a routine, but we learned a few different steps, how to lead and follow, and dip.
We will be nothing like 'the routine.'

You cna take lessons to leana few moves bu then not choreograph and the whole dance, amybe a few moments here and there.. I saw couples who choreogrpahed the whole dance nad not only did it look fake and stupid, but when i'm hvaing my first dance with my new DH I want to concentrate on the moment. not 1..2..3..4...

My FI and I took lessons - but they were to learn the steps of popular dances like the Rumba, Fox Trot and Cha-Cha. We are thinking of going back in August to have our first dance choreographed and knowing my FI, he will concentrate so much on the steps and moves without feeling the music, that we will have the Monica and Ross routine!!

I personally never like when the first dance is choreographed exactly. If you want to take dance lessons to feel more comfortable and get more ideas, I think that is great but for me (at least) wouldn't want it to be laid out step by step. But I am biased as a former dancer. JMO.

We joke that as our first (slow) song ends, we'll break into the dance sequence from Napoleon Dynamite! I actually wouldn't be surprised to see some rendition of it from one of our guests.
I wish I could get FI to take dance lessons - - I've asked on occasion, but he hasn't been very receptive! Push for it - I bet you'll be glad you did!

Kinda like on Everybody loves Raymond....When Robert and Amy had their first dance they looked all serious and shook it to A Little Less Conversation.....
But the Monica & Ross routine .....that scares me!

We debated lessons but, in the end did 'The Sway' which seems more natural and sincere. I usually dislike watching a choreographed routine and cringe a bit at the site...
But, we told the band to invite everyone else up REAL quick and it was AMAZING when the dance floor swelled around us by EVERYONE - The feeling was great and the song worked out great..
We picked a Jack Johnson song....

I totally LOVED that episode!! As for dance lessons, I really want to, but its going to take some persuation to convince FH. He's not to keen on the idea.

Don't forget to keep your dress in mind with the dance. A friend never tried there dance with her dress on and when it came time, her DH could barely get his arms around her because her skirt was too full.

OMG, I love that episode!!!! But I don't think you have to worry. They were trying to get attention and be on TV. It's your wedding, you'll already have everyone's attention for the 1st dance. So if you take lessons it's not gonna be showy, it's just gonna be skilled. Go for it!!!
I have the CD, I have to listen to that song now! Boys are nothing but trouble!
