Rotating the holidays with your family and his???
How does it work for you all?My family is Big on Holidays and his isn't, but we are doing this..
Wed:Pre-thanksgiving dinner with his parents
Thur: My family
Christmas Eve: My family
Christmas Day: His family
This does seem well balanced, I just don't want to offend either set of parents, especially since last year (the first holiday get together of IL's) was a disaster, this year we decided to keep them in different corners..lol

My situation works out to our advatage too. Chris' family eats 'dinner' early - like 1pm. My family doesnt start to eat dinner until about 5pm. So we eat like fat bastards on holidays!!

Re: Rotating the holidays with your family and his???
We switch Xmas with his parents (his dad and stepmother one year and his mother the next year). We rotate Thanksgiving with his family and mine though, so whichever parent he sees for Thanksgiving he doesn't see for Christmas, though it's always a little sticky when we see my family for Thanksgiving and then have to figure out who he's seeing for Christmas. This year, we're combining my mother & his mother for Thanksgiving so we're seeing his dad for Christmas.

Re: Rotating the holidays with your family and his???
FHs family really isn't into holidays so we just pretty much go to my parents for all of them.Last year we went to FH's house for thanksgiving though and my mom was upset so she said that we're hers this year. which worked out fine cause FH's parents were going to a neighbor anyway.

Re: Rotating the holidays with your family and his???
we rotate thanksgiving, this year is his family.I just hope my family isn't wacko when we see his family this year and in 2006, b/c in 05 we will be in Hawaii.
My family doesn't celebrate christmas on the eve or the day so we are with his family and see my family sometime near then.
Easter - my family celebrates on Saturday and his on Sunday, so that's easy.

Re: Rotating the holidays with your family and his???
last year was rough, his parents were at their house in florida, so we spent the week before christmas down there, celebrated christmas eve with them a day early, flew back up to NY on christmas eve, got to my parents as the first appetizer was being served.

We do Christmas Eve with his family and Christmas Day with mine.Thanksgiving was a real problem so we decided to host ourselves. It turned out really well last year and I have my fingers crossed for this year!! Luckily both famlies were cool with it. We have 15 people coming on Thursday!!

Re: Rotating the holidays with your family and his???
Your plan looks good!We have it easy since my family and FH's live within 5 minutes of each other...
Thanksgiving: My parents' house at 2:00 for dinner (I plan on going over much earlier to help my mom cook); then head over to FH's parents' house for another dinner at 5:30! Luckily, my family likes to do things early and his family are more night people.
Christmas Eve: My parents' house
Christmas Day: His parents' house
I volunteered to have Thanksgiving at our house next year!

Re: Rotating the holidays with your family and his???
Because of FH's grandmother's passing, his fam is not really doing Thanksgiving. Last year, we didThanksgiving with his fam,
Christmas Eve with mine,
breakfast on Christmas with his fam and dinner on Christmas with mine

Re: Rotating the holidays with your family and his???
we're going to start doing x-mas every other year at my family's in TX. so this year year we're with his in NJ. tough having families so far apart and we live in DC! due to limited funds we have to chose one place, we just can't afford to travel all over. thankfully as much as it blows our families totally understand.

Re: Rotating the holidays with your family and his???
Thanksgiving: My familyThanksgiving Dessert: His family
Christmas Eve: My family throws a big party every year and his doesn't, so I really don't even count this.
Christmas: Dinner with my fam and then dessert with his. (Last year we did dinner with his hence the rotation this year)
Holiday rotations are difficult especially when you have a FMIL like mine.

Re: Rotating the holidays with your family and his???
this is a huge advantage of being an interfaith couple - we never have to split up the holidays!
so we do christmas with my family and exchange hannukah gifts when we visit his family in florida between christmas and the new year.thanksgiving has traditionally been here in ny with whomever in my family is having it... and we spend new year's with his.
so far, so good...

Re: Rotating the holidays with your family and his???
this subject gives me ojeda!! jk Well lets seeAfter 3 yrs this is the 1st thanksgiving we will spend together, believe it or not we went our way.
Christmas eve was then with his mom and Christmas day with my parents and then the weekend of xmas with his dad. well this yr everyone has to go and change everything. my parents never do anything on the holidays, but this yr they decided to so thanksgiving at my aunts, that is easy enough, xmas eve I have no idea, my parents have always been alone they have even gone out to eat but this yr my mom is having her family over and normally we go to James mom, this stinks so now i have to go to my moms and then go to his moms. My mom does the traditional italian xmas eve his moms family does appetizers so not missing much. anyway have to work that out. xmas day breakfast with my family dinner at his dads. he thinks when we have a house we can just have everyone over. YEA OK!!!
