RP- any info on these reception sites???

Hello 08er's!! figured I'd check w/ you ladies since you might have some helpful info.

One of my hubby's friends who just got engaged is considering some of these places, and she asked me if I had info......the groom to be is in NY, the bride to be is in California (she's a doctor in the army).....so it will be a little while before she can see these places herself. I've been to two of them on her list, but figured I'd turn to my girls on LIW for more feedback!!

pls let me know if you have any good or bad feedback or notable info. If you'd rather FM, please do!

TIA!!!!

Here's her list:

-Nicotra's Ballroom at the Hilton Garden Inn, SI
-Vanderbilt at South Beach, SI
-Li Greci's Staaten, SI
-Terrace on the Park, Flushing Meadows
-Russo's on the Bay, Howard Beach
-The Renaissance, Bklyn (14th and 59th)
-Sirico's, Bklyn

ETA- if you have any places you'd recommend in Brooklyn or Staten Island, feel free to let me know, I can pass it on to her to research. Thanks!

thanks!! I don't think she's looking for prices necessarily, I think she just wants to know if there's anything she should know about- bad food, rude staff, etc. I'm going to have to do a search for her on here to see what I can find.

out of the ones she listed, I've been to Russo's and Terrace on the Park, its the ones in Brooklyn and Staten Island that I have no clue on! lol

thanks for your input!!

OHHHHHH ok well from what i hear nicotras is great as far as food and the place is BEAUTIFUL, if you look on the site you'll see how the ballroom has big windows all over with trees surrounding it. So far i know shes had all good experiences dealing with them and they were very nice. No complaints from her yet

Russo's you always hear the food is amazing which im sure you know that already

Terrace on the park i had my prom there

Oh another suggestion is el caribe in brooklyn, its gorgeous and only hear raves about it

I'm getting married at the Rex in Bklyn. But if you are in the market for Bklyn, then Sirico's, El Caribe, and the Riviera is nice. I looked at Gennaro's which had this really steep marble staircase and I was afraid if someone got too wasted and they fell............Plus the rooms are REALLY small.
We also looked at Paradise on Ave. U. Nice but my cousin is getting married there and I felt weird booking it there.

Of the ones on your list, I only checked out Terrace on the Park...it just wasn't my style, too 'institutional' in its decor, nothing posh or luxurious. Plus, I've been there for other events, and the windows get foged up VERY quickly, so you lose the view.

I got married on March 9th at Russo's -the whole day (we had ceremony there as well) was nothing short of incredible!
The staff and the food are just awesome.

FM me if you have any specific questions about Russo's

The Vanderbuilt and Hilton are both gorgeous. The Vanderbuilt has great views. As someone else mentioned, the El Caribe has really GREAT SERVICE too. Sirico's IMO is not as fancy as the other places you listed.

Edited: There is a Renaissance in Staten Island on Hylan Blvd that is beautiful as well.

I'm not a fan of Sirico's or Renaissance. The food isn't very good.

Russo's and Nicotra are fabulous!! Those are my top 2 of your list.

El Caribe is also AMAZING in brooklyn

I love Russo's (Obviously)

I have been to two events at Terrace on the Park, and enjoyed them both. Typicial catering hall food and the staff was helpful. View was a great bonus!!

I'm getting married at Terrace on the Park in June so if you can wait until then for my review that would help lol I've heard great things about them. They've been doing some 'minor' renovations to update the place like new elevators, carpets, fresh paint and the such. I think its really beautiful and different rooms can accomodate all different size parties.

ETA: the downer is that they don't give food tastings ...

Re: RP- any info on these reception sites???

in SI i would do the hilton and maybe the vanderbilt - i hear mix reviews about the place all the time from si people - some ppl said the food is horrible other people like it but it has a nice view for a summer wedding - its right on the boardwalk overlooking the verrazzano...the hilton is nice and its conveinent b/c there is the hotel right upstairs....i wouldnt even bother with the li greci's staaten...russos would probably be my pick...
