I don't know if this applies to anyone, but i thought id throw the info out there.
FH and I are domestic partners for insurance reasons. So i was unsure of how to cancel it to apply for the marriage license. I just called the county clerks office and they said when you apply for the marriage license it automatically cancels the domestic partnership.
hope that helps someone...

Re: RP: Domestic Partnerships
FH and I are also DPs for insurance reasons - I just assumed getting married would cahnge our status, but you are saying it's the marriage license - so does that mean that I will be uninsured from the time we get the licenese to until we actaully get married?

dont quote me, but im assuming it carries over to the marriage license. as long as it's issued there shouldnt be a problem. if you find out definitely please let me know!

Re: RP: Domestic Partnerships
I just have to send a copy of the marriage license to my benefits dept. at work and they take care of it for me.

Wow - she wrote back fast:
Hi Jess You only need to change him from DP to spouse after you are married.
That's it!
Congratulations, all the best to you and Dave!

Re: RP: Domestic Partnerships
I work in HR/Benefits.
Your insurance company won't change your status until you show them the proof. So you will still have insurance if you have your licsense issued but haven't used it yet. You will just switch to spouse status once you show them a copy of your certificate.
Make sure to do it within 31 days of the date of your marriage, otherwise you will have to wait until Annual Enrollment.
You should switch to spouse status so you can stop paying the imputed income tax on his portion of the benefits.
