I have been out of the gym for a few weeks (okay a month or so...) and am noticing the spread already...
I decided to cut out carbs for a couple of weeks to jump start the diet- and hopefully get back with my awesome trainer
Just wanted to share- plus I will need some help!! (I am a carb addict!)
Any of you guys have tips? Or going through the same? TIA

Re: RP from 06: Starting My Wedding Diet!!
Congratulations! I did the low carb thing for a while and really saw very quick results but for me I just couldn't stick with it, so now I am on the body for life diet which you can see whole grain carbs which is good for me because I just couldn't stick with the low carb thing, I was too much of an addict For the drinking the water and eating every 2-3 hours works the best. Good luck and good for you getting started so early!

Congrat's and Good Luck! Cutting down the Carbs is a big step and it'll help a lot! Make sure to still include the 'good' carbs - such as sugars from veggies and fruits....

Re: RP from 06: Starting My Wedding Diet!!
I'm thinking of doing the low carb diet too. My mom did it, not as a diet but she completely changed her eating habits-- a little carb and protein but mainly a lot of veggies and salad, cutting out the sodas and drinking mainly water and she lost like 30 pounds 3 months. It's kind of hard for me because i'm a carb addict, so i'll have to see how it goes.

I cut out carbs completely for lunch and I'm eating 1/2 portions for dinner - also eating dinner earlier than I used to. I am definitely noticing a difference.
I was sick for the last few weeks, so I haven't been doing abs, etc. I am finally feeling better - so I ca start that up again!

Re: RP from 06: Starting My Wedding Diet!!
I tried to totally cut out carbs once before on phase 1 of south beach and I lasted 3 days and then crashed and burned. I was so cranky and so nauseous. I could not do it.
What I am doing now is healthy eating including all food groups. I eat protein at every meal and eat a lot of fruits and veggies and try to limit carbs. When I do eat them I choose healthy carbs (oatmeal, whole grain bread, yogurt, etc). I also drink a ton of water and make sure to eat very few hours. I never go more than 4 hours without food if I can help it b/c then I get too hungy and overeat. I have also been trying to control my protions.
It takes a lot of planning (like packing my lunch and plannign healthy dinners) but it is worth it!
Goof luck!
ETA: I also just started doing something with my friend. We made out a whole plan of how we want to eat and exercise (all of our goals), a list of banned foods and rules for what happens when we cheat. We both now keep food journals and we have to call each other to confess if we cheat!!! We started it on Sunday and so far it has really been keeping me from cheating. I don't want to have to call her!! Gotta love the buddy system! Oh, and we get one 'no worry' day a week where we can eat anyhting and not exercise. Looking forward to that helps too.

Re: RP from 06: Starting My Wedding Diet!!
katebloom99- THANK YOU!!
I was just in Ulta and felt so nauseous I really thought I was going to be sick in the store
I guess this is a side effect...?
So I went to the food store and got some high protein and low carb stuff...
I ate some cheese and now feel a little better...
THIS IS GOING TO BE HARD!!
ANYONE WANT TO BUDDY UP WITH ME?

Re: RP from 06: Starting My Wedding Diet!!
Low carb diets can give you headaches and make you feel nauseous. If you're doing South Beach and are in Phase 1, you should eat some beans and/or drink some milk. Both are allowed in Phase 1, and will help you with some of the side effects.
Also, I know a bunch of people who skipped Phase 1 and went right to Phase 2. They still lost weight, but it was a much more gradual process, since you're just eating healthy foods at that point.
Good luck!

if you decide to do south beach, you only feel horrible for 5-6 days. after that, you really do start feeling better than before you started the diet - you have more energy and your cravings disappear. but if south beach it not for you and you're just looking for healthy carbs, here are some easy suggestions - eat sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes, and eat berries, which have less sugar, and apples, which have lots of fiber, instead of other fruits, especially tropical fruits which are very high in sugar. good luck!
