RP from '07 board (donation favor question)

Okay... so many of you know that my parents and my sister all passed away. We were going to do a traditional favor, but the idea of a donation favor is becoming more and more appealing.

Here is what were thinking... we want to but a bottle with a cork top (message in a bottle) for each guest. We would fill the bottom with sand and maybe some periwinkle shells and a couple of sequins. Paint the outside of the bottle and create a scroll inside that explains the donation.

Now here is the challenge. We would want to consider donations to 3 different places - Susan Koman for my sister (who died of breast cancer), American Diabetes Association for my dad (who died from complications due to that disease) and The American Cancer Society for my mom who died from Lung Cancer.

Would it be better to create 3 different scrolls - 1 for each foundation - with a brief story about the person/people who were effected by the disease and put a different scroll in each bottle randomly? We figured we could do a 3rd each and maybe make the differences on the cork (like a pink ribbon for Koman, etc..). Or should we make one LOOOOOOOGNG scroll and put the same one in each bottle?

Or is it just a dopey idea that is better left alone?

i think one long scroll would be easier for you to assemble, but if you wanted to do the 3, there's no reason that couldn't work. i would suggest with the three that you at least mention the other two you're not describing.

i like the idea of a donation though, it's really meaningful and i think your guests will really appreciate it.

my vote is also for one scroll. you don't want to make the process any more complicated than it needs to be. also, you don't want anyone who knows your family to receive a scroll and then wonder about the other two important people in your life.
