I just posted this on the 07 board. I wanted to see if anyone has ever bought a dress off the rack or a sample. My dress was never ordered from the bridal store even after months of correspondence and now I have nothing one month before my wedding.

I bought mine off the rack...wasn't planning on it or shopping for that...but i tried on the sample, loved it, and they said they had one in stock, brand new, never worn with the tags still on it for half price...and it actually was my size & the length was only about 2' too long..it must have been a cancellation....i am sure many places have similar dresses in stock as well. Have you tried contacting the dress manufacturer directly? I had a similar problem with my bridesmaid dresses. The store kept giving me the runaround and I finally spoke with the manufacturer, told them that unless they gave me a straight answer I would have to hold them accountable too and finally they told me the truth, which was that the store had never paid them and the store gave them a different wedding date for me that was further out!
The manufacturer told me that if they could not work it out with the store, they would sell my the dresses directly. They ended up working it out with the store so my bridesmaids got their dress at the beginning of this week (12 days before)!! Sometimes the manufacturer can be helpful, just a thought.
I was running around looking for a back-up plan and there's always Ann Taylor and J. Crew which have wedding gowns too. Also, check out the Top Button website, they list sample sales around the city and usually there are a few bridal sample sales. Hope this helps and I am really really really sorry you have to deal with this stress!

That is awful I would stay in touch with the store and the manufacturer they either have to come up with your gown or accomodate you some other way they could have been upfront that way you would have had time to re-order else where

Exactly!!! There is no excuse for what they have been doing to you. You need to contact the designer and talk to them. I went through that with my dress recently (with measurements and ordering me the wrong size). They gave me a complete run around but then I called Eve of Milady directly. Everything changed- the store called me back and 'all of a sudden' they could now rectify everything. I'm so sorry you're going through this. I hope everything works out!

There are many places where you can buy a dress off the rack, but hopefully your original dress works out.

omg that is horrible!!!!!!! How unprofessional of them.
I got my dress off the rack from Davids and took it home the same day. I just had to get it cleaned and altered.

I cannot believe they are blaming it on a former employee. Seriously, they need to stop blaming someone and fix it PRONTO! So sorry you have to deal with this stres!

OMG!!!! So Sorry. My Freind bought something off the rack. It fit her perfectly, but if a dress does not fit like a glove they can alter it to fit you. GOOD LUCK!

I just bought a sample dress from Lotus Bridal in Brooklyn. The sample sale is still going on. They said that they can do the alterations in as short as 2 weeks if necessary....good luck!

try David's Bridal...they sell dresses off the rack from what I hear....sorry to hear that! Good luck with everything.

If your dress does not come in tomorrow call them and get the number of the manufacturer, explain to them the situation and that you NEED to know if it was ordered. You can buy samples at many dress stores but they are usually discontinued styles. I would call around and start your search ASAP.
I really really hope that you dress comes in!!

I found out about a sample sale from Daily Candy. It was that day, and I went down there and left with a dress that I love! My dress was marked down $3,000!!!! If you can get to a sample sale do it!!!
