rp from 07: Thank You Card Predicament (did something very stupid)

Ok so to make a long story short, DH and I are stupid...

After the wedding here, we had another little party back home for people who couldn't make it. Well that was the day before the honeymoon, so we went home, opened the cards, and took out the money to bring with us, and never wrote down who gave what. The problem is, we got a card from friends of my aunt, and she asked if they gave us anything and I said I thought so (couldn't remember at the time, but I was pretty sure), and she seemed surprised. Well now that we are about to do our TY cards, I can't even find their card and am starting to wonder if they did give us anything? I mean, I was pretty certain that they atleast gave a card, and also pretty certain that they gave money because we counted it and without adding anythign from them we would come up short.

But now I don't know what to do since I can't even find their card! What if I was mistaken and they didn't give us anything? If I send a ty card it will be weird. On the other hand, it would be rude if they did give us something and we didn't send a card.
What do we do?

Either way, you should still send them a card thanking them for attending so maybe you can word it like 'thanks for contributing to the happiness of our day.' This way it could mean 'thanks for the present' and 'thanks for being there' and then they can interpret it any way they choose.

You are good. Sounds like a great idea.

That is a good idea, except we got this printed in the english cards:

One thank you for the gift,
and another for the thought.
A dozen thank yous couldn't tell you
all the happiness they brought.

The German card is blank on the inside, I guess I can just send one of those...all it says on the outside is Danke and I'm sure they know what that means.
