RP From BHB- My friend is preggo and lost her job!

My friend is pregnant and just recently lost her job. Her job will carry her benefits for another month but after that she wont have any. She thought of getting them from Cobra but it turns out its going to cost more money then she can offord. I know there are things out there that will help pregnant women who arent married, but is there any alternatives for women who are married and pregnant with no medical insurance?TIA!

She can get medical insurance help from the state and i believe the federal govt will cover a portion of your cobra payment.

I worked with a woman whose daughter was PG without a job and got checkups and delivery etc from the state but I think she had to go to specific hospital and Drs.

Also my old roommate got laid off and the feds covered a portion of her cobra.

Once the baby is born it is covered by healthy NY

The govt is picking up part of the tab for COBRA right now. They will pay 65 percent of it for up to 9 months.

ditto on the cobra for 9 months, and also, I think there are special benefits for pregnant women on medicaid.

My mother works in OB/GYN through the state. If your friend is eligible (based on income) she and her child are completely covered, up until the child is a certain age. Her hubby as health insurance through his job which his boss pays for. If she were to go under his health insurance it would be about $600 a month because he works for such a small company. They obviously can't afford that since they are barely getting by now.
