RP: 'Greedy' Registry items?

Re: RP: 'Greedy' Registry items?

i gave my guests a big range in prices: from below $10 all the way up to $299.

i felt that: just because I CHOOSE TO SPEND $XX PER PERSON AT MY WEDDING DOESN'T MEAN I'M EXPECTING THAT MUCH IN A GIFT. not everyone can afford a lavish wedding gift.

i also agree with you on the vaccuum and china. if it's something i already have, i don't need another one... unless it's in need of 'upgrading' already.

i didn't need towels, and sheets. my registry was 90% kitchen stuff because that's where i was lacking.

Oh I agree! Right now I have more things that are under $50 than over $50. The guests are demanding more pricey items... don't they know I have simple tastes??

you can always have 'word of mouth' state that they are welcome to buy more than one item off your registry if they feel they MUST spend more.

in the end, it doesn't really matter. people will get you what they want. dh's sister (who i have issues with-post wedding) got me something for my shower that i would never buy for myself that only cost $10. it's in the backroom, hasn't been opened, and she got a 'thank you' card just like everyone else.

A lot of people chipped in for things at my shower. I actually found out the guests liked the big items (not that there were that many) because it required less thought to chip in than to pick out individual gifts from everyone.

FH and I had very different opinions on this issue. His belief (and this is for everything he buys- not just stuff on our registry) is that if you're going to spend SOME money on something, you may as well do the research and find out what the best is---even if it's way more than you would think it should cost. He feels that spending any amount of money on something that isn't the best is just a waste. Therefore, we HAD to register for the copper core all-clad pots which are ridiculously expensive, we HAD to register for the Dyson (which I have to admit is awesome!!!), we HAD to register for the Kitchen Aid PROFESSIONAL mixer (the $500 one), etc.

luggage
flatware
china
bedding set
pots & pans
kitchen aid mixer

All are $100 and up. I don't think you should add high end items to target, just BBB or consider registrying somewhere else too

Bedding
Towels (individually not big ticket but, together they are)
Luggage
Pots/Pans
Kitchen Aid Mixer
Vaccuum

I figured I put what I wanted because people do chip in and buy things and at the end, most places send you a coupon to buy the things you didn't receive.
