Rp: Question about tipping DJ

I just finished confirming everything with my DJ for Saturday & right before we hung up he mentioned that our total (which we paid) does not include gratuity. No where on the contract does it say a specific agreed amount for gratuity. He told me that they usually recommend 15%. That's over $150. I wasn't planning on tipping that much. Am I wrong? Is that standard?

Wow! That sounds high to me...we were thinking more like $50 each (we have a DJ and an MC)...I thought that was more the standard (and then you give more that day if they went above and beyond)...

I was told $50-100 each wa pretty standard. I gave my MC more b/c I thought he was fabulous but it started out as 50 each

i feel like when they give a price, they are telling us what they think their services are worth
if they want more, they should charge more but not 'expect' to just get it

That's what I was planning to do. I figured I'd start at $50 & add more if I saw fit. I've read between $50-$100 is standard that's why I was a little surprised by the 15% recommendation since that would be around $150. Plus, I think it's a bit tacky for them to 'recommend' any amount for a tip.

Hmmm...I would think that they should have mentioned gratuity when you signed a contract with them. Who are you working with (if you don't mind sharing)?

my brother is a dj for a company that does weddings etc
standard tip is 50 per person (dj /mc) unless they are owners
mine went totally above and beyond i was about 300 tip haha but they really couldnt have made the day better... so i threw them more $ at the end of the night on top of the 75 each i gave them in the envelope
