RP:NWR queens and astoria girls please help!

anyone that is familiar with queens can you please help!

i know queens, and astoria the most, but never lived there.
can anyone tell me how is it to live there? FH and I went to look at an apartment we like today, its on 21st avenue close to the river.

is it safe? are there good resturants to go out to eat at? also my daughter goes to kindergraden in sept 09, can you guys tell me hows the school and which ones are good?

Parts of Astoria are shady-I think over by 30th ave is really where you wanna be (isn't 30th ave where all the cute shops and restaurants are?) Sorry if I'm wrong on the street, hopefully one of the girls can clarify the street I'm talking about.

I lived in Forest Hills for 3 years and absolutely LOVED IT!!! Kew Gardens which is the town right next to it is really gorgeous also.

So I would recommend those 2 spots

I live in Astoria over by the park on 27th Avenue. It is pretty safe and there are alot of restaurants on Broadway and also 30th avenue which is not too far away. I am not sure about the schools though because I do not have children. I lived here for 5 years and I love it.

I grew up in Astoria and FH lives there still, we love it. It's safe, there are restaurants everywhere, the schools are good...some better than others, do u know which school she would be zoned to?

Are you looking close to Astoria Park? It's a nice neighborhood there.

The only downside to living near the park is that you're pretty far from the subway, I think about 9 blocks.

i would say around ditmars area is best. 30th ave theres alot of stuff but also broadway, just depends what streets. Or if you live on 30th ave, broadway, 31st avenue or anything past 28th avenue and going up, then youre right off of steinway street where all the shops are

I was born and raised in Astoria and I think it's a FANTASTIC place to live!!

Where exactly on 21st Avenue are you looking? It's definitely safe, but there are some areas that are nicer than others!

There are SO MANY good restaurants and of course, the schools are great (I teach in one but it's on the other side of Astoria, closer to Long Island City). A REALLY GREAT school near the park is P.S. 122--it's a magnet school and has a great reputation. Another good school is P.S. 85 which is on 31st Street and 23rd Road.
