My rule is usually to send them out 2 months before and make the RSVP date 1 month before. That way, you have enough time to get your favors and place cards and everything without rushing.
If the wedding is sept 30th I think you are supposed to mail them 6 weeks prior (Aug 19th) and them have ppl rsvp either 2 weeks or 3 weeks before your big day :)
We're going to do my send out date about 10 weeks before the date, and our RSVP date will be 5 weeks before the date. We are going to give any stranglers up until 1 week after the RSVP date to respond, otherwise they are out. I have a lot of DIY stuff I need to get done so I want a good solid month after we have our final count to get it all done.
