RSVP Drama Begins.....People are insane!!

So, I just had to share this story, because it just baffles me....some people are really just out of their minds!

Invites went out last Friday, so the RSVPs are starting to come in already. FH just called me from work and said he needed to talk to me - now, we used to work together (how we met), and we're inviting a lot of people he works with, all of whom I know since I used to work there too.

So I guess this one guy asked him if he could bring a guest. I didn't put 'and guest' on his invite, cause FH told me he's not dating anyone and wouldn't bring anybody. FH said yea no big deal - which would be fine since I know some people invited w/ guests that are coming solo. So THEN he asks FH if he could invite a certain person.....their boss's assistant.

BACKSTORY!
I used to have this job, she took over after I left. I am still good friends with my ex-boss (who is FHs boss) and she is coming to the wedding, as well as many other people from there. Ok, so when I left, 2 1/2 years ago, it was apparent when the new girl started that this guy had a crush on her....it was obvious in a subtle kind of creepy way (like making little comments about how attractive she was)....oh yea, he is almost 20 YEARS older then her! So I guess during the past couple years he hasn't gotten over it, and it's always awkward gestures like buying her flowers or gifts....She's obviously not interested, and her boss notices this all as well. He is harmless, but it's like, it's not going to happen so stop it!

OK TOPIC AT HAND...
So I tell FH NO WAY IN HELL can he ask her! Of course it was too late cause FH said yea go ahead, banking on 2 things (a) he would think it through and NOT ask, or (b) he does ask and she says no cause it would be too uncomfortable. I could have strangled him through the phone!

I mean, really - forget about how uncomfortable the wedding would be if she DID come....I highly doubt she'd say yes considering how awkward that would be for her. Not to mention everyone else that works there, given their BOSS will be there too. BUT, how inappropriate is it of him to ask her to begin with? I mean, it's creepy, totally not a smart thing to do at the work place, and people get fired over these type of things right?

i guess right now all I can do is just wait and see what happens..... I'm hoping for this guy's own good he smartens up and keeps his mouth shut and comes alone!

OY, and so the drama begins.......

i'm a lil confused.....the girl in question...does she respond to any of his advances at all? what makes you think she would come at all with him if he's creepy?

Okay....heres my opinion (and its JUST an opinion, so i dont mean to come off harsh). They're both adults and you told him he could bring a date. Let him ask her. Odds are she'll say no, and if she says yes, then who cares? So, she comes to the wedding. SHE is saying yes, so she obviously WANTS to go with him. It doesnt sound like something you need to worry about. Plus, from what I got from your post, you dont have any issues with her. When you extend the invitation to someone to bring a guest, you dont get to dictate who they bring. So, let him go off and ask her. Its not your problem if she gets creeped out or whatever.

No she doesn't respond to him - and he's never actually asked her out, it's just pretty obvious he likes her. But she's not interested.

I don't think she'd come - I mean, maybe the only reason would be as a friend cause she'd know a lot of other people that are there...... it's just the fact that he's actually considering asking this person to come is what baffles me.

I told FH that from now on he must say 'let me check with FH and I'll get back to you' before giving answers.

Oh and just to clarify about him being told he could bring a guest.....that is all FH. I wanted to invite only people that I knew were dating somebody else with a guest, I didn't want people inviting random people just to have a date. So really, I would have told him I'd prefer he didn't find somebody to bring.....but FH didn't ask me first.

well...FH should have asked you first if he could bring a date -- thats def true. Otherwise you'll end up over inviting by a lot because there will be many more people within the next few weeks who ask if they can bring so-and-so! We went thru that and OMG it was annoying!!!
But, I still think that once you extend the invite to bring a guest, its up to them who they ask to come. I mean, whats the harm in him asking her? the worst that can happen is she says no and maybe he'll finally take the hint

Well, if he is creepy and she is not interested then I'm sure she will say no if he asks her. Either that or maybe he has someone else in mind that he would like to ask to be his guest-- I know that a lot of people don't like going alone to weddings so maybe he is like that.

Just wait and see what happens- I'm sure he won't bring her or she won't want to go.
