I heard RSVPs are sometimes numbered. This may be an obvious question, but is it only done for big weddings or is it for every sized wedding? Also why is it done? How is it done? Do you just assign one number to a whole family if you're sending out separate invitations? Thanks.
I just got some of the answer since I read others. But I still would like to know about the whole family numering. Thanks.

Re: RSVP numbering
IMO, I would do it for any size Wedding.
It might sound stupid, but many brides have said that guests return the RSVP card and forget to write their names and just say will or will not attend. When this happens you obviously have no idea who this guest is.
What you do is, put a little # in the back corner of the RSVP card and put the same # next to that guest on your list. If a card comes back with no name, just match the # to your guest list and no worries.
If you are sending to an entire family, I would still use 1 # because usually they write in the # of guests attending or at least should.
Good luck

Exactly!! Very well put! I used that numbering system throughout all my files including when tracking gifts and Thank You cards.

Re: RSVP numbering
If you are sending out separate invitations to an entire family, you should number each invitation. I used a pencil to write in the #'s. I'm having a small wedding - about 100 people - and the mehtod works. I've had folks saying on the RSVP card that they're so excited they will be joining us but forget to include their name.

I agree - this is what I did. Everyone sent back their RSVP with their names however it was definitely a piece of mind knowing that if they didn't I would be ok.

Re: RSVP numbering
We did it, but I would say for any size wedding it's appropriate. The point is to make sure you don't get a card that has no name on it or an illegible name and you have to start calling around asking people. We've already had it come in handy on about three cards.

Re: RSVP numbering
I did it and had a very small wedding. I wrote with a very light pencil a number in the back of the card associated to each guest. I kept a copy of each name/number in a excel document with the name, address. Sort of a master file.

Re: RSVP numbering
we put a number on the back of each rsvp card for each envelope (whether it was a couple or a single) and that number corresponded to our master guest list which had everyone's name/address, etc
