So my uncle sends me a facebook message the other day stating that he got the invite and wanted to know who was included (he has 5 kids). I thought it was obvious when we addressed the envelope to Mr. and Mrs, not & Family. Anyway, after feeling uncomfortable, I email him back stating that we would have loved to invite all our family and friends, but due to budgetary constraints we simply could not. And then I said how I hoped he and my Aunt could make it and that we were looking forward to seeing them.
Yeah, well today I receive his RSVP and all he did was check off 'decline with regret'. He didn't even write a short note as to why they couldn't attend. So far everyone else who declined at least wrote 'sorry we can't make it, best wishes for beautiful day, etc'
I'm a little offended and I feel like he declined b/c I didn't invite his kids.
Sorry for the long vent.

Re: RSVP Vent
Wow. It sounds like you're right. But how old are his kids? Maybe he couldn't get a babysitter...or didn't want to leave them alone?

Re: RSVP Vent
I've come to the conclusion with weddings that people are stupid. Many couples don't want kids at their weddings for one reason or another and these people have MONTHS to find a babysitter. Sorry this is a sensitive subject for me.

Re: RSVP Vent
maybe he couldnt find a babysitter. But seriously, depending on the age of the children (and this is if they are really young), why would they want them to come to the wedding..

Re: RSVP Vent
WOW.
We thought my moms cousin was going to pull the same thing. Except she has a bratty 3 year old son. When she received her invite she called my mom & said since she heard at the shower that my nieces & nephews would be at the wedding she figured her son would be invited. My mom said well of course my sons kids are invited to the wedding but no your son is not. We didn't receive her response until after the RSVP date.
You would think that people would like a night out away from their kids.

Re: RSVP Vent
Wow. Sorry he had that reaction and wasn't understanding! Does he talk to your mom/dad? (whoever he is a brother of)
I had to tell the same to my cousin, who I'm very close to, that no children were invited and that it had to apply to everyone or it wouldn't be fair. She said someone's going to have to miss it. The thought of one of my family member's not being there is so upsetting, but I'm hoping they could find a sitter.
People should understand...how old are these kids?

Re: RSVP Vent
People get so ridiculously defensive, it is unreal. I am sorry he did that to you. Try not to let it put a damper on things.

Re: RSVP Vent
His kids range in age from 15-35 and since our 'no kids' cutoff age was 18, my mom said it wouldn't be right to invite some of his kids and not all, so we decided to just invite my aunt and uncle. They're distant relatives anyway, so I'm not to upset, I'm just surprised at the nerve of some people. My mom however was not too surprised, so I'm guessing my uncle has pulled things like this in the past.
The funny part though, is that my sister said that my aunt actually sent her a handwritten note saying that she couldn't make the bridal shower. So that deserves a handwritten note, but a wedding invite doesn't?

Re: RSVP Vent
Thats terrible, and ppl are ridiculous.
First of all, wouldnt you want a nice night out without your kids?
Second of all, what's cheaper?....finding a babysitter for your kids for a few hours? Or putting money in an envelope to cover your entire family at a wedding? Obvs getting a babysitter!!
