Anyone come up with a creative way to word the RSVP card? I am not a big fan of the standard options and I would like to combine the number of guests field with a will attend or unable to attend option...
I don't like the below, but would like to capture the outlined info somehow... Any ideas? Thanks!
A favor of a reply is requested on or before August 18, 2004

number of persons will attend ______ unable to attend ______

when giving options i feel as though they should be consistent like accepts/regrets or will attend/unable to attend, the # of persons just never seems to fit! i know from experience people tend to just place a check next to whatever options given, so how do you know how many people will show up?
also, for the intros i feel that they are either too demanding (do this by then) or totally passive (please, if it's not too inconvenient can you possibly...). i am probably reading WAAAAAAAAAAY too much into these, but i find it annoying nevertheless...
and why M__________________ , what if Mr./Mrs./Miss does not apply?

are you assuming they will place a number in front of the options or checks? i am weary of having them assume a number of invited even if the envelopes are worded properly...i know i have gotten confused at times...

Re: RSVP wording help...
I'd definitely include the number question since there are some horror stories about uninvited guests. I'd never think anyone going to my wedding would do that but I suppose neither did the people it happened to either .
Anyway, I think the first one bride2be83 posted would be perfect.

You can always play with the first sentence if you think it's a little pushy but I think the M_____, etc is good. Oh, and if you're concerned about the 'M', leave that out and just put a line - people will know to put their names there if the next thing reads __will __will not attend.

Re: RSVP wording help...
i don't get it. if the name appears on the envelope then those are the ones invites. i don't understand this whole #'s attending thing. why would one ever assume that they can invite mr and mrs +2? i have NEVER heard of this. people must be really presumptuous or i must be really naive.

Re: RSVP wording help...
Yes, people can definitely be pretty presumptuous. However, while it's to partially guard against that, it's also to say the number because it's entirely possible that, with an invitation for multiple guests, not all of them may be able to attend. If the number wasn't on it and they wrote back so-and-so will be able to attend, you'd assume all those included with that invite.

Re: RSVP wording help...
if they envelope read 'the jones family' wouldn't they respond w/ mr. and mrs. jones, bobby, and sue?
eta: and if bobby was unable to attend they would not include his name in the reply
i am i wrong? i guess it's better to have things spelled out for people to avoid any problems. i have never thought (and i am not) doing # attending, but i guess i can see your point. you can't always assume people are going to do what is expected of them.

Re: RSVP wording help...
There's not usually that much room on the cards, they're pretty small.
In the end, the number request is not a necessity, it's more of a safeguard. I'm personally going to have it, I'd rather be safe than surprised the day of.
