rsvps withOUT a guest

rsvps withOUT a guest

My FH and i decided that we are only inviting unmarried family/friends with guests if they are in a serious relationship or engaged. we are paying ourselves and cant afford everyone to bring random people, nor do we want random people in our photo album.

today we got back an rsvp where the person rsvped yes for himself plus a guest who FH and i dont even know!

how would you handle this?

seriously, every etiquette book i have read said that guests should realize the invitation is only for who it's addressed to....and that its rude on their part (the guest) to assume he/she can bring a date.

what do you girls think? am i overreacting? should i just let this person come?

People are just so dumb sometimes. Are you close to this person? I'd just call them and directly address the situation in a calm manner. He may be rude or he may be just ignorant, its not worth guessing. We are in the same boat with paying for everything and we have a tight guest list. So tight that if someone pulls that $hit and doesn't wanna come w/out a guest, then we have plenty of ppl who we can still invite instead!

Totally not overreacting- that person should have realized that only who is named on the invite is invited to attend.
I think you should call (or have FH call) and politely explain that you are not extending the invitation to (guests). Say that the no guest policy is across the board- that if you let that person bring a guest then other people would want to also.

i already had to tell two of my single friends that their random dates were NOT invited. i really cant believe that people don't realize this already, if another persons name isnt on the invite...theyre NOT invited!!

i will have to get the FH to make this call because it's a friend of his side of the family.

Wow...first of all thats messed up...and i would call and tell them that it was just for you and not a guest ...and that is that ...sometimes you have to be mean to get your point across ..good luck

Have your FH call and explain the situation. The person should be understanding enough of your situation and politely accept the no guest policy.

We only had 2 people do this, and we just let it go

And now one just told us she isn't bringing a guest!

so afraid of this happening. i know people do it but is it weird/tacky to have the response cars say 'we have reserved __ seats in your honor' ?

You're not overreacting. I would call them up and explain that you have a maximum number of people you can have at the wedding (you can even just blame it on the room capacity) and unfortunatly he won't be able to bring a guest.

I'm sry but that is rude!!! And you should def tell them that they were only invited him and not a guest. I'd have a fit it someone did that to me!!

You should call and just explain that the guest list is tight and you wish you could invite everyone with a guest, but you can't afford it and you decided that you are only inviting people with guests who were engaged or living together --- just be honest.

If this person has a problem with it then I would tell them not to come.

We had this happen a few times with family members too. We just explained that while we wish we were able to extend the invitation to many people, including guests or our friends and family, unfortunately it's just not possible. Not only are we limited by the number of guests the hall will allow, but we also would have to be fair and then extend to everyone, which is just not possible.

I would probably let it go.

Is it possible it's a boyfriend/girlfriend you don't know about?

I'm doing this, my invite lady said 70% of her clients add this to their invites now. I'm inviting everyone w/ guests though, I'm only doing this to prevent people from bringing their kids.

cool I'm glad to hear this. i mean i think it helps both parties because say for some reason someone threw out the envelope and dont know exactly how it was addressed. this just makes it so much clearer

uh goodness, I waS scared of this happening....I would ask yourself how important this person is....I mean that is overstepping boundries...I knew when I was single when I was invited with or without a guest.....

I will be doing this too since most of FHs family is from Out of state and have no clue about weeding etiquette.
