Rude to not invite?

Rude to not invite?

I don't want kids at the reception, so we limited it to who are in the wedding party, and neices and nephews. The problem is, very close friends of mine (2nd family) is mostly younger kids, there are only two my age. The 2 my age plus the parents are invited, I don't want the kids there only because I really don't want ANY kids. (The neices and nephews are mostly in the bridal party- only 3 are not, otherwise they would not be attending the recption either).

Would it be rude of me to tell the parents I don't want the younger ones coming? (The kids have already made comments about how they can't wait to go, and how much fun it will be). And should I say something now, or wait until the invitations go out? (I still have 2 years). I really don't want to hurt them, but I don't want kids!!

I wouldn't worry about it yet. I think if it's just family kids then that is fine, just be consistent. If you start making exceptions, then people start getting hurt. I don't think you need to say anything yet. It'll be clear when you send out the invitations.

definatly read my post on NWR.

I know how you feel. I am in a situation with dealing with kids as well.

Its so difficult. I wish I knew what to say to help but just know you are not alone in this situation.

Re: Rude to not invite?

I didn't have any kids at my wedding except my nephew who was 10 at the time and my brother in law who was 12 at the time and was our ring bearer.

I made a point to write 'Adult Reception' on the response card and only one guest tried to get her infant daughter to come because she was still breastfeeding and I STUCK to my guns and said 'no' the guest showed up without her baby and it worked out fine.

We're only inviting family kids, cost will be too great to allow everyone to bring their kids. The best man & 1 GM they have 11 kids between them ALONE so we had to say no. I also will stick to my guns if someone tries to bring their kid.

Re: Rude to not invite?

We decided on a cutoff point. No kids under 16 are invited unless they are immediate family. And even those kids may not come. We are going to leave it up to their parents whether they want them there. It is your wedding, you can invite whomever you want. Everyone knows a wedding is not cheap and I am sure they will understand.

a lot of parents don't want to brign their kids too....i was shocked talking to some of our friends about this but they all said they woudn't bring their kids, they want the night off......i was brought up in a family where kids were always invited so its a new idea for me, but it sure does save money!!

I dont think its rude....in fact most of the parents are happy to go out without them for a change

Re: Rude to not invite?

The only kids at my wedding will be my flowergirl and ringer bearer. It's not rude, because it's YOUR wedding, and therefore you get to call the shots.

I agree with the other post about being careful inviting 'some' kids and not others. I think this might get some people upset if they are told 'No kids' but then see kids at the wedding.

I personally wouldn't care, but I'm learning very quickly these days that people can be very petty and get offended at the slightest thing.

Good luck to you!

I don't think it's rude. This is your wedding! I think i've also decided to have no children. but I also have almost 2 years. I agree with whats being said that if you invite one you have to invite them all or people could get offended. But I would tell them sooner than later so they have time to get over it and make plans for someone to watch the children.
