Sad for my friend, and remembering to be thankful for all that I have. **Update**(LONG)
First off, thanks everyone. I just needed to vent of sorts...and just share to help me with this.
I am at the hospital with her and she will have the baby about 2-4am. She is doing well and resigned for adoption which is the best thing.
But she is doing well and my boss let me off tomorrow. So we sit and wait.****
So I have a friend Jennifer in CT I have known since the 8th grade.
She has been dealt a crappy life. She never had self esteem or self worth. Her sister was always the pretty and smart one and all Jen got was a load of crap in her lap.
She really cant hold a job better than retail. She is not 'stupid' but has never quite been main stream.
She got married for the wrong reasons to an alcoholic. (we didn't know at the time). Her mother died from smoking and lung cancer.
All the time she has been married she has had one boyfriend or another. I cant even say how many times she has had sex with other men. She even brought her current boyfriend (at the time) to her moms funeral.
She finally got back with her high school sweetheart. He was married and so was she. They have been off and on for years now. He is finally divorced but NOT living with Jen. She bounces from her dad's to his house. He has always had his cake and eaten it.
:::sigh:::::
4 years ago she goes to jail for DUI and now has a felony conviction on her. She does not drink anymore and hasn't.
::sigh::::
And now I just found out, yesterday, she is 8 months pregnant. SHE didn't know she was pregnant up until 3 weeks ago. She is sitting in the hospital right now in labor. The guy is no where to be seen and she is all alone.
And I CANT leave work to go to CT to be with her.
:::sigh::::
But the good news is she is giving the baby up for adoption. Same family is going to be able to love this child and give her a good loving home.
:::sigh:::::
I thank G-d every night for the things that I have. Looking back on the story of Jen and how different our lives have turned out breaks my heart. For years I have tried to help her. Help her keep a job. Make a budget. Spend her money wisely. Help her get on her feet. But its like talking to a brick wall.
I am in awe that I have this amazing man who loves me for me. Is supportive and kind. Who I can have and build a life with.
I pray for my friend. For the baby she is giving up, and life she will continue with. I pray she will let me help her and she takes this one day at a time.
It teaches me to remember compassion. Weather its a bride on this board who's nail broke (its a big deal in the moment) or to a friend giving a baby up for adoption.
I think I will remember this moment for a long time to come.
And I will remember what I have and be so thankful and grateful for it.
And to always help a friend in need. Even if its the hard choice. We may not like what they have done, but we can always be a good friend and give them hope where none exists.
