sad news about my new kitten

I brought my kitten to the vet today so she could get her schots, and while she was there, I found out she has a pretty serious heart murmur......

ANyone ever have a cat with a murmur?

recommendations??????

Sorry, none of my cats have had this problem. Is there anything they can do to correct it (i.e., surgery, medicine)?

wow that just happened to us with our new puppy, however based on our vets recommendations and that we had only had the dog for 5 hours, we took her back!

However I was at North Shore the other day and I was talking to a woman there and she said her cat has a heart murmur and she is now 13. Depending on the severity of it, it may be something that is livable! Check to see what grade it is (1-5) and whether the vet thinks its somehting she will grow out of or if it will be detremental to her life.

My sister's cat has one, and like the previous post, depending on the severity they could live a long happy life..

It's been said before, but, depending on how severe the murmur is, it may not be a big deal. My calico, Patty Hearst (aka Pure Evil) was abandoned by her previous owner, and I suspect it's because she has a slight heart murmur. My vet told me that hers is not serious and doesn't require any medication, but it may shorten her life expectancy a bit.

I'm not worried, I don't think Pure Evil can die!

Since the vet said it was pretty severe, what was his advice?

The fact that you have put up with Gunnar and his evil ways, tells me you are a dedicated kitty mommy, so I know you will give little Niblet (

, what did you end up naming her?) the best life possible no matter how long or short it is ... she will be loved and happy.

My cat had a hear murmur when she was a kitten. They wouldn't even put her under anathesia (SP?) to get spaid! They did it while she was awake!!!!!!!

But now, 4 years later, she no longer has it!

The vet said she might grow out of it, and she did. No medication or surgery needed.

Get a second opinion! Don't jump to any horrible conclusions until you know for sure!

our cat had one when we first got him and as long as we got a check up each year and watched to see that everything was fine it would be ok. The kat is not 4 years. old.

thanks everyone

the vet said that it was a grade 5 (she estimated) which I think is pretty high up there....she knew there was a murmur as soon as she picked her up....but had to get her to stop purring for a second to hear it for real (such a purry little creature

)

She said that we can get a sonogram type test done to see what the cause is....but it's a lot of money and I honestly don't have a lot of extra money lying around these days....spent it all on the evil cat's tooth surgery fiasco earlier this year!

So i'm going to ask a friend who is also a vet...see what she says...but I dont' think I can afford to have any surgery performed....and she's already been spayed, so her heart has already undergone anesthesia.....which makes me hopeful.

It's just such a shame because she is the EXACT OPPOSITE of Evil...I mean Gunnar.
I love her so much already....

BTW - we decided to name her Scout. Sorry all you Niblet fans.....

Oh, and her nickname is MonkeyButt....because she has a really large rear....the vet was laughing it was so big
