My honey too has never really dealt with it..(he was standing at the foot of Tower 1 when it came down - he's a firefighter - thank God for an open garage door, or things would have been very different) I support the President and our Troops, despite our losses...I am very proud to be an American!!

I agree. My brother served during the first Desert Storm, I worked in 2WTC as well (still recovering in so many ways) and my cousin is in the 4th division coming out of Fort hood Texas but wasn't there when they caught the ba$tard, but he's still proud.
I support Bush 100%. Maybe Joe Public will finally see that he has done something rather than just BSing like Clinton did. Like him or hate him at least he DID something about this!!!

Shamma, that was the first thing I thought of also. it's very possible that they had him in custody for a while... and were waiting to tell the world at the perfect time - for political and economical reasons.

Interesting idea that the American's had him in custody but I really don't think so. Too big of a deal to keep under wraps. It would have slipped out somehow. And if they did, so what....He has been captured and that is all that matters!

I agree, too big of news to hold it in. CNN had said the military found out information yesterday, informed the president who was at Camp David yesterday and at 3:15am today our time Condolezza Rice called the President to let him know that Saddam had been captured.
Like Jenn posted her dad called her at 6:30am so I am sure its all accurate that they got him over the past 24 hours and they did their tests to prove it was him and then let the world know.
Did you see the images of the Iraqi people dancing in the street? They looked so happy. They have lived in fear for 35 years and now they don't have too anymore. They may not have to leave their homes armed with machine guns, hide their children, and live in fear anymore. They were dancing, honking their horns, and for the first time in 35 years were happy.
That is one sick individual captured and we have one left and I know if we could find Saddam we will find anyone.

I'm sure they had him for some time...(not more than a day) to test for DNA...we have had his DNA waiting ...just in case one of his doubles were captured...
this is something that Bush would not want to keep in...with all the killings of US solidiers by the Bath party I am sure that Bush wanted Hussein to boost his election ratings...

yugoslavia...since WWII - the world is not a place that you can just barge into another country in Europe...there were clear alliance lines (NAtO and Warsaw Pact) and although Yugoslavia was a member of neither...the bufferzone that Yugoslavia provided for both sides was vital...if you are just going for your degree, I'm going to go out on a limb and say, maybe you don't remember the tension of the Cold War...it didn't just end when the Berlin Wall fell...Gorbachev was KIDNAPPED to try to have a second Russian communist revolution...this were far from quiet...invading a European nation could have lead to nuclear war...most political scientists and historians will agree though...NATO and the UN f*ed up for Bosnia...but they were there...A friend of mine was there in 1995 in the British Navy and he saw the awful horror that Milosovic did...you should know that politics are delicate and unfortunately things cannot be quickly stopped...as much as we would like them to be...
Germany was a completely different issue...lets first mention that antisemitism was RAMPANT in the world...US included...but even if the claims that the US knew about the camps as early as 1942...what could they have done? the US was LOSING the war to the Japanese up until the battle of Midway in 1942...should the US have dropped our interests in the Pacific? (the war that most Americans were angry about...ie Pearl Harbor)...lets not forget that while the League of Nations put limits on weapon manufacturing after WWI...Germany/Hitler disregarded this...to the extent that they were ready to conquer Europe...Germany was defeating nations with their superior weapons well into 1942 (do I have to mention Operation Barbarosa...Batlle of Britain?) Yes the US knew about the camps...but even if they wanted to...war strategy wouldn't allow for the liberation until 1944 (one year BEFORE the end of the war) so yes the US and UK did do something about it...it was just not immediate...
I am not a Bush supporter...and did not support this war...but I think that Hussein HAS committed crimes against humanities...have you not seen the mass graves they found in Iraq...from 10+ years ago...not exactly speedy if you ask me...but yet it is now ended for the Iraqi people...

Last year I taught in a school that had a huge Persian population. Many of those children's families came here from areas that Sadamm had power over. One of them shared with me a story her uncle wrote after he escaped from one of Sadaam's camps. The images in that story were so disturbing I cann't even describe them. I cannot imagine how incredibly happy those people are today. I don't think our safety is the issue here....I think the fact that these people no longer have to live in fear of their wives and children being raped and murdered on a soldier's whim is what is really important here!

wow just made my way through all the posts. I am glad that they cought him. I doubted too in the beginning that they actually got HIM and not a double. Its confirmed now and I amd glad..although I am not sure what we are going to DO with him now.. (haven't had the time to watch tv)...I just hope that none of his followers decide to bomb away in a futile attempt to get Saddam out Oil may have had a part....and we have found components to construct massive weaponry...and dont forget the gasses that were found. This guy was given MANY MANY chances by the UN to disarm. He disregarded all of them...and was torturing/killing his countrymen/women. Time to pay the fiddler...and the US will make sure that WE aren't the only ones prosecuting him.
now to get that tricky B*&stard Osama and his group.
