I scratched a kid at my school with my ring today on accident and now I don't think I can wear it to work anymore!!! I had to write an accident report and call his mom.
I teach 6:1:1 elementary art in a school for kids with autism and my kids are bananas and often need to be picked up, restrained, etc and I can't wear my ring to work anymore, which is understandable but still makes me feel frowny.
EDITED: I re-read and realized I sounded really selfish-the kid was perfectly fine and I was obviously most concerned about his safety. :)

I don't think you sounded selfish at all. I understand and that really does suck. Who knew bling could be so risky?

Re: SADNESS!
Oh no!!! This would bum me out. Would you consider getting it reset to a lower setting??? The setting I have is high but also deep (the sidestones are high up as well so it's nestled) so the center diamond doesn't jut out in a potentially harmful way... besides getting my hair caught in the prongs all the time it has yet to scratch or cause harm in the 7 months I've been wearing it! If I were you I would totally get it re-set, unless a career change is in the near future, and save the original setting for some day down the line. It's too special to not wear!
Sorry about the whole ordeal though, how stressful!!

Re: SADNESS!
I teach a 6:1:1 middle school class and I totally understand having to pick them up and etc. Even though my kids are bigger they too are off the wall. They are both extremely heavy and STRONG.I get thrown around every day by them! lol I totally understand how much is stinks. I'm so sorry this happend.

Yeah, I think when I get the band, I might just wear the band to work. It is a marquis, so it is inherently pointy and dangerous....but so pretty :) It is set pretty low, but the shape of it is the problem.
Luckily, it was a kid with a nice mom, because otherwise...whew. Not a great start to the year!
Kerry-are you a teacher as well?

Crashing..
Wow, that sucks! I hate to take off my ring, even wore it during softball once lol so I can totally understand. I'm always scratching FH with my ring.

Re: SADNESS!
If it makes you feel better, I'm not allowed to wear my ring in my profession (nursing) bc of safety concerns (that and I don't want to mess it up from all the OCD handwashing we have to do), so you're not alone! Bc of this, I got a secondary plainer 'everyday' band that I can wear to work and I will wear my real band whenever I wear my E-ring

I have some 5th graders who are HUGE! LOL. It is such a physical job! Where do you teach? I am in a D75 school in the south Bronx.

SOOo I just looked at your profile thinking you may have a pic of the weapon (lol) and I see now why it could be a problem! Marquis are quite pointy lol. But I still stand by the idea of resetting rather than not wearing it. Something like the setting posted in this thread would eliminate the pointyness issue and let you wear your sparkler without fear! Or even something like this. Just an idea... I am just really adamant about not giving up the sparkles LOL.
ETA: No but I work in an inpatient hospital and there is plenty of flailing lol!

I love the first one....I am going to have to talk to FH about that idea. You are right, I am going to be doing this job for a long time and might want to wear my ring!

DOOOO it! I am SURE he would rather spend a few extra dollars to have you wear it, than have spent all that money to have it sit in a drawer!!! You deserve to wear it!

I'm so sorry!
I teach kids with autism also and i wear a regular band when I'm working with life-skills type kids...but my motives were selfish-not wanting it to get messed up, haha. Maybe thats an option for you?
