Is it true that you can get your Passport the same day if you go into the city? Has anyone done this/know someone who has? I'm going to Canada and on an Alaskan cruise, it's not required, but I've been told it'll be easier as far as Customs, etc. Any info is appreciated!

A co-worker told me that she went to a place in CT and got hers the same day. I forget which city, and this was pre-9/11. I don't know if that would make a difference or not.

passports are required for 2006 travel leaving the us mainland...
nyc has a location for sameday passport.
all you need is photo id and birth certificate
if you have 2 months..apply regular mail

Thanks! Unfortunately we're leaving in a week and a half, so we can't wait for it to come in the mail. I'll give the NYC location a try, I found it online, but I'm betting I'll have to pay a bunch of fees-Oh well

Check and make sure that you don't have to make an appointment to go there. Don't want you to go all the way into the city and find out that you needed to call beforehand.

based on where your going, you shouldn't need a passport...check with your travel agent. to get into canada, you dont need much
